Founded in 1974 by The Reverend Stephen B. Swann with eight seventh-grade students, today ESD educates and inspires 1,150 students in grades beginner (age 3) through grade 12. ESD is located in Dallas, a modern metropolis of North Texas, and a commercial and cultural hub in the region.

At the heart of ESD are talented and compassionate faculty and staff who are the backbone of our institution and paramount to the school's success. They adeptly balance rigorous, college preparatory coursework with understanding and nurturing of the whole child. Classes are small, with an overall student-teacher ratio of 7:1. Purpose: Beginning in early to mid-September and commencing in mid-December, this long-term substitute position involves teaching 4 sections of Upper School Math and advising a small group of freshmen/sophomores. The ideal candidate is an outstanding teacher with a solid background in and passion for teaching upper school students and employing a variety of teaching tools and methodologies. As an effective member of the Mathematics Department, this individual is flexible and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues. They are committed to modifying assignments and assessments to conform with best practices and student needs. The successful candidate is also a lifelong learner who welcomes opportunities for professional development and collegial conversation leading to the development of effective, inquiry-based education.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach Upper School Mathematics (projected to be 1 section of Algebra 1; 3 sections of Algebra 2), delivering instruction aligned with ESD's Statement of Educational Philosophy and Mission. Lesson resources and a pacing guide are provided in Schoology, our LMS (Learning Management System).
  • Provide integral and varied support, planning, oversight, and communication as an academic advisor.
  • Participate and engage in professional activities and gatherings at team, departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels.
  • Use appropriate technology in support of the curriculum of the twenty-first-century global classroom.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Support individual students as needed before and/or after school.

Abuse Risk Management Standards:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Working Environment:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Generally 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
  • Generally hazard-free environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in mathematics or related field) -Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience as an Upper School Math Teacher.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and twenty-first-century pedagogy.
