EpiCypher is Hiring a Research Associate I-III Chemistry Near Durham, NC

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate I-III with expertise in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Oligonucleotide Synthesis, and large molecule Mass Spectrometry to join our team. As a research associate you will play a crucial role in development of novel epigenetic targets and delivery of raw materials to support the expansion of our epigenetic tools and services. The primary responsibilities will include DNA/RNA synthesis and HPLC purification, and assisting in synthesizing and purifying peptides/proteins. Experience with both protein and oligonucleotide high resolution mass spectrometry is a plus.

Summary:

The Research Associate is a key driver of success in driving product development and services at EpiCypher®. The position requires the employee to leverage skills in chemistry to independently support the delivery of epigenetic tools and services.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of the Director to design new experiments and prioritize ongoing projects based on service contracts, grant deadlines, product release schedules, customer-initiated projects, etc.
  • Work expeditiously to synthesize designer histones to meet product release schedules, customer-initiated projects, etc.
  • Execute routine experiments with little or no supervision.
  • Work independently with the Production team to coordinate/prioritize timely synthesis and purification of designer histones and evaluate quality control specifications (including troubleshooting).
  • Independently organize materials, associated documentation, data, and results for multiple ongoing projects (e.g., HPLC method development, batch sheets, analysis files, etc.).
  • Analyze results and assist with troubleshooting strategies/future directions in collaboration with the Director.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the background, scientific rationale, and methods for projects (e.g., NCL, HNCL, HPLC, and MS method development) by reading grants, relevant papers, protocols, etc.
  • Work directly with grant support, also reporting to the Grants Director.
  • Generate and interpret needed data (e.g., HPLC profiles/sampling, intact mass spectra via high-resolution mass spectrometry – HRMS).

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical biology, or biochemistry.
  • BS with minimum of two or more years or MS with at least one year of experience.
  • Minimum one years’ experience with analytical/preparative HPLC and organic synthesis (peptide and macromolecule synthesis).
  • Prior experience in a commercial setting is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Organic chemistry is required.
  • High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is required.
  • High Resolution Mass Spectroscopy (HRMS) is preferred.
  • Ability to work towards specific goals under minimal to no supervision.
  • Ability to rapidly gain working knowledge in new fields.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the Research Associate – Chemistry position, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods as well as move about inside the office and lab. The employee must be able to operate a computer and necessary lab equipment. The employee must be able to position self to move objects weighing up to 10 pounds throughout the workday.
