WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Peer Recovery Specialist you will deliver mentoring and supportive direct care services to clients in substance use disorder recovery. Utilizing your lived experience, you will engage with clients to develop and build skills toward a meaningful and individualized recovery plan. A successful candidate must be willing to self-identify as a person with direct personal experience living in recovery from mental health and/or substance use conditions.

This is a full-time position at 40 hours weekly and includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provides mentoring and support to clients to promote client achievement of treatment plan goals and objectives, advocates for client needs, and provides supportive assistance for clients to develop new life skills.
  • Monitors the client’s behavior, schedule and activities for successful treatment outcomes.
  • Implements the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) model with each client.
  • Collaborates with the Care Coordinator or client’s Clinician to assists clients to plan and access other ancillary health and human community resources to address each client’s social determinates of health (housing, employment, health care, benefits, etc.).
  • Evaluates and responds to any urgent crisis of clients and/or their families and will provide direct crisis intervention and take immediate steps to connect clients in acute distress to appropriate services.
  • Meets with individuals/families in the office, community settings, or their homes, as indicated by supervisor and client need.
  • Attends court staffings, as needed, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and prepares client progress reports.
  • Provides information and education to family members and significant others of clients to link with needed resources to help improve the quality of life for the client.
  • Completes documentation of all clients services provided.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Services a plus. Must have lived experience with substance use or mental health with at least two years of current sustained recovery. Certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist by the Florida Certification Board preferred. Plus:

  • Current valid driver’s license in the State of Florida
  • Successful completion of Level 2 background screen and drug screen.
