Job Title: Special Ed Teacher, 1:1Department: InstructionReports To: PrincipalCompensation: 60,000 with Bonus PotentialTRS Classification: Classified Summary:We are a unique learning environment that provides a non-traditional educational setting utilizing Internet- based, individualized self-paced instruction provided in nearly any location in Oklahoma. Epic Teachers are remotely based and travel to the student’s home or other designated location to work with each student and meet with parents on a regular basis throughout the year. Each of our students is assigned one teacher for a personalized, one-on-one approach to learning. Successful candidates should also have the following experiences and characteristics: Have an eagerness to learn and a growth mindset;Hold exceptionally high standards for the quality of work and a re?ex to improve at every turn;Have well-developed emotional intelligence and moral character;Possess an ability to build strong relationships, thoughtfully navigate challenging situations, and get excellent results from others; andHave problem-solving and clear communication skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Work with assigned students to provide instruction in a virtual learning environmentProvide learning experiences and teach students in pre-reading, reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science and other electivesUse technology as an everyday tool for teaching, learning and communicating Directs the distribution of curriculum to studentsTeach students and their families how to use online curriculum and supplemental curriculumProvide consultation and/or technical assistance to students and families Adapt instruction and curriculum to the needs of the studentServes as a liaison between the school and familyAssists families with the interpretation of Epic Charter School’s policies and proceduresCommunicate with each student through Zoom, instant message, email, and/or phone on an as needed basisMeet with each student for face to face instruction at a minimum of every three weeks for regular education students and weekly for those on an IEP unless otherwise directed by the familyWork to coordinate, schedule, assess and implement appropriate instruction for each studentConducts assessments of student needs, including those with English as a second languageCounsels with students to promote self-awareness, self-identity and positive social and academic skillsPromote parental involvement in the learning process and parental responsibility Identify opportunities for additional tutoring for assigned studentsCommunicate with parents, in a professional manner, through conferences and other means to discuss the student’s progress and interpret the school programAssist students and families to select credited course work to advance the student towards graduationPerform administrative tasks for day-to-day management including: tracking student grades, managing schedules and meetings, conferring with the school, while scheduling and monitoring student course progressTranslate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instructionReview course work for every studentDesign, deliver, evaluate and revise a planned sequential developmentally appropriate program in accordance to district standards and indicatorsSelect and requisition books, instructional aids, instructional supplies for the student and assist with the collection of school property when the relationship between the school and the student endsClosely monitor and review student transcriptsMaintain grades on the required database for school recordSystematically develop, deliver and evaluate student planning Pre-K through 12th grade addressing academic goal setting and transition plansDevelop and follow Individual Learning Plans to assist in developing measurable goals for continuous improvement of assigned studentsStay current with relevant research and teaching/learning trends as required to improve academic achievementUnderstand school resources Maintain updated curriculum trainingAnalyze data to evaluate the e?ectiveness of curriculum and teaching methods Required participation during Spring in-person testingAttend required meetings & PLCs in personDevelop guides and other support materials necessary for relevant programs while locating additional learning resourcesWork closely with other teachers in the development of lesson plans that encompass the use of technologyMonitor progress of small groups using DIBELS AssessmentFormulate new strategies to ensure that teaching to Epic Charter School standards is evident throughout the academic school yearMeet with the family and special education team twice a year to address IEP paperwork within a timely manner so as to remain in compliance with the Oklahoma State Department of EducationType IEP’s twice a year and update monthly Give student grades based on IEP modi?cationsGive accommodation information to the testing coordinator Attend IEP meetingsIdentify potential at-risk students using common risk factors and frequently observed characteristicsDesign interventions for individual students Assess student behavioral needsEnsure that proper placement is provided for students with special learning needsProvide assistance for parents of students identified as being at riskBe an adult advocate for assigned studentsInform students and parents about pertinent test results, academic programming, behavior intervention strategies and their implications to the overall academic successIdentify opportunities for additional tutoring for assigned studentsWork with parents to use positive behavioral techniques to strengthen the student’s ability to succeed academically in a positive mannerEmphasize the use of proactive, educative and reinforcement-based strategies to achieve meaningful outcomesReport suspected child abuse/neglect Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field required. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.
