Highlights of the job

We have an opportunity a full-time Construction Inspector to join our team working at our capital project construction site in the Taylor Texas area.

As a Construction Inspector you will initially be reporting to a capital project construction site near Taylor and will be accountable for on-site inspections and acceptance of construction work for capital and developer-funded engineering projects. You will also be conducting on-site inspections of construction projects ensuring conformance to contract documents and industry safety standards.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Enforcing compliance with the requirements of permits or approvals granted for construction. Coordinating with permitting agencies for inspections and certifications of compliance. Acting as EPCORs primary on-site contact for construction contractors and serving as the liaison between construction contractors and EPCORs project managers. Providing direction via field orders to resolve questions related to the engineering of assigned projects and understanding when to elevate those questions to the project manager. Preparing project documentation in accordance with Company standards. Reviewing and approving construction contractor progress payments and record drawings.
  • Inspecting water and wastewater construction projects including pipelines, plants and other facilities for compliance with standard specifications and details, approved plans, and generally accepted construction practices. Conducting pre-construction meetings for developer-funded projects. Monitoring contractor performance and compliance with EPCOR and OSHA safety practices. Evaluating contract change order requests and material submittals and providing recommendations to the project manager. Maintaining logs and records reflecting construction progress and procedures.
  • Performing research on existing systems to assist with the planning and execution of short-duration shutdowns and fire flow tests. Directing leak and deflection testing of sewer mains and manholes and reviewing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) video of gravity sewer mains for acceptance. Completing inspection reports documenting inspection findings. Performing pressure testing of tapping sleeves, water mains and sewer force mains. Verifying all valves within the test section are in the open position. Witnessing the disinfection of water lines and collecting bacteriological samples for assurance. Scheduling all necessary inspections and testing with contractors and developers.

What’s required to be successful

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 8 years experience in an Inspector role.
    • In lieu of Inspector role experience, we will consider candidates that have worked at a foreman/supervisor (or higher level) on major construction projects.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Minimal travel required - 80% in the field, 20% in the office - on occasion may require short-duration trips to other EPCOR service areas outside of the Taylor, Texas area.
  • Coordinating and organizing skills.
  • Ability to read engineering plans and specifications.
  • Communication skills - verbal, listening and recording.
  • Interpersonal skills – tact, diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation; attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of engineering specifications and surveying principles; construction means and method; procedures and Federal and Company safety regulations; critical path method scheduling principles.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk for several hours a day. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.
