EPB is Hiring a Smart Grid Project Engineer Near Chattanooga, TN

PURPOSE
The Smart Grid Project Engineer will provide engineering,technical, and project leadership for EPB's electric system. This includesengineering analysis such as reliability analysis, capacity/contingencyanalysis, system protection studies, and engineering studies of equipmentloading, voltage and automation equipment. This position will also includedesigning and delivering improvements that are part of EPB's electric system ofthe future, such as distributed energy resources (battery storage, solar, etc.)and electrification projects. The position is focused on improving processes,efficiencies, effectiveness, reliability, resiliency, and customersatisfaction.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize engineering training and analysis toolsto evaluate the performance of the electric system and develop plans andstrategies for improving reliability, reducing costs, and improving customerservice
  • Develop plans to maximize the investment EPB hasmade into Smart Grid infrastructure to improve operations. This includesanalysis of automation technology and distributed energy resources
  • Develop and maintain EPB's corporate resiliencyplan based on detailed engineering analysis and contingency planning so that weare prepared to respond to a variety of possible external impacts to the powersystem
  • Perform data analysis to understand and improveelectric system operations; utilize current technology to perform dataretrieval/transformation, database development, and report writing; developmethods to identify trends, patterns, and relationships in electric systemdata
  • Prepare data analysis that can be communicatedto customers inquiring about the quality of their service
  • Manage projects by coordinating internal andexternal resources to complete DER projects in a timely and cost-effectivemanner
  • Develop and refine processes to improveefficiencies, effectiveness, reliability, power quality and customersatisfaction
  • Develop metrics to ensure that improvementsidentified are measurable
  • Work independently and with teams based onproject needs. Work as team member and/or team leader as applicable
  • Research new technology for utility industry andmake recommendations to Electric System leadership. Monitor and evaluatecustomer needs, requests, and complaints
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree inElectrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or related engineeringdiscipline
  • 7 years of experience or training in a relatedfield
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills at theintermediate level, data systems, and have a working knowledge of computersystems and software
  • Proficient in database analysis and reportingtools helpful in retrieving and analyzing large amounts of data to reachconclusions and develop improvement plans
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects tocompletion on time and within budget
  • A background in electric utility operations andtechnology is preferred
  • Some experience with electric utility softwareapplications for analyzing distribution systems is also preferred
CERTIFICATION(s) & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver'slicense in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation ofmotor vehicles
