The Drill Helper will be based in Lovelock Mine but support the western US sites including, but not limited to other northern Nevada locations (Clark, Fernley, Fallon), Oregon locations, and various greenfield and brownfield exploration sites.

The primary responsibilities of this role are to support the drilling efforts of US Silica as part of the in-house drilling team comprised of two members (Driller and Drill Helper) through the operation of both the diamond core rig as well as the air rotary rig. The successful candidate will be mechanically inclined and have experience or willingness to learn the craft of the different types of drilling surrounding operating mine-sites or at remote locations. The drilling team reports to the Geology Manager and will contribute to the exploration and grade control activities of the Mine Planning team such as providing a high quality sample through drilling, assisting with sampling activities, and helping with the logistics of the program.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assists in the safe and correct operation and productivity of the various drilling rig units.
• Will learn how to operate all drill equipment safely and efficiently. May be directed to take over the responsibilities of the Driller in the absence of the Driller.
• Participates in safety meetings and conducts regular safety equipment inspections daily.
• Helps ensure compliance with all federal (MSHA, BLM) and state (NBM&MR, DOGAMI) regulations of drilling operations.
• Maintains a clean and organized drill site.
• Notify the Driller, Geologist, or Mine Foreman of any violation concerning laws/regulations by any governing agency.
• Notify the Driller or Geologist of any drilling or sampling concerns.
• Follows Work Instructions (WI’s) for drilling procedures and sample collection diligently.
• Support the Driller to ensure sufficient drilling and equipment supplies are available for drilling operations.
• Ensures water pumps, mud pumps, water return pit, and water tanks are operating correctly.
• Maintenance and care of all assigned equipment.
• Assists with all necessary paperwork including documentation of maintenance and safety items.
• Assist in reclamation efforts from but not limited to prior drilling, trenching, and additional forms of mining campaigns.
• Inform the geology team when equipment needs maintenance, when materials or supplies need to be ordered, and to take initiatives support the program as needed.
• Support the Driller to maintain an accurate driller's log of the various drill activities, site moving, and support work.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

• High school diploma
• Excellent communication (verbal and written skills);
• Must have a valid Driver’s License;
• Must be able to manage heavy equipment (drill rig, support vehicles, trailers, etc.).
• Must be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and maturity.
• Enthusiasm, exceptional problem-solving abilities, personable, and a team player - building effective working relationships with internal and external employees.
• Great listener and good communicator, who works well with operations leadership as well as the hourly production team.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

• Drilling or Mechanical Experience
• Knowledge of drilling equipment, sampling protocols, and needs of the geology team conducting exploration and definition drilling activities.
