POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Data Center Technician with a Limited Energy Technician, Class A or Class B Technician License to join our infrastructure engineering team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in the installation, service, maintenance, repair, and alteration of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling and other various low voltage cabling systems. Your role will involve managing physical installations and removal of structured cabling components, cabinets, pathway systems (cable tray), move equipment, racks, and related communications infrastructure materials.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Install, service, and maintain low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, and communications cabling.
  • Pull cables, rack and stack, and terminate copper.
  • Clean fiber/copper and operate fiber/copper test equipment.
  • Use VFL (Visual Fault Locator) and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Follow Method of Procedure (MOP) / Change Method of Procedure (CMOP).
  • Operate Work ticket system and Fiber Infrastructure Management (FIM) interface.
  • Set up testers, operate OTDR/OLTS, and calculate link budget.
  • Operate Cableguy interface and troubleshoot links/optics.
  • Read/Validate Portmaps and perform troubleshooting.
  • Conduct power distribution and cable management (stripe power) tasks within the infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with other team members for efficient project/work order completion.
  • Follow company procedures and OSHA regulations, providing necessary information to operations management.
  • Complete necessary documentation in written and electronic formats according to company standards.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies inventory, as required.
  • Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate client concerns and meet SLAs.
  • Effectively escalate complex technical issues as needed.
  • Teamwork
  • Attend meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Achieve performance targets established by leadership for applicable Key Performance Indicators.
  • Step in for the Lead Field Technician on a short-term basis, as needed.
  • Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • A Limited Energy Class A or Class B Technician License
  • Associate degree or Certification in a technology services/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years ’experience installing, servicing, and maintaining low voltage cable infrastructure systems.
  • Proven ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables.
  • Industry and manufacturer-specific experience and/or certifications preferred (BICSI, Panduit, Commscope, Siemens, Corning, Leviton, Ortronics, etc).
  • Specific certifications: BICSI TECH, Corning TS-LAN-500, Fluke OTDR, Exfo Tier 2 Troubleshooting or company equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, and local and National Electric Code.
  • Strong customer/client service orientation with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive company vehicles.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and more than 20 inches, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Ability to identify colors and give and receive information through speaking and listening skills.
  • Regular requirements to sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequent need to stand and walk; occasional need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
