We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Clinical Risk Manager!

Responsibilities

The Clinical Risk Manager is a clinical professional who utilizes and assesses claims and risk data to support clinicians and drive risk mitigation initiatives to reduce harm in healthcare. Perform functions related to and in support of clinical risk management, claims management and enterprise risk management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Employs a data driven approach to risk management by collecting and analyzing relevant databases; Analyzes loss runs and reports on patient injuries, aggregates data summaries, and maintains statistical trending losses as well as other risk management statistics and files.
• Create, compile and communicate risk management and claims data dashboards and metrics to leadership, providers, quality and safety professionals on a regular basis.
• Maintain a network of informational sources and experts, performs risk assessments, and evaluations of providers, point-of-care solutions and programs to assess loss potential.
• Collaborates with the Patient Safety Organization, Risk & Safety, Compliance, Legal and other departments to proactively identify clinical risk and claims trends and implement mitigation efforts to eliminate harm and improve patient experience.
• Perform proactive analysis of patient safety and medical errors processes; collaborate with Safety Surveillance on occurrence reporting data, trends and efforts.
• Act as clinician resource and provide guidance including but not limited to – adverse event reporting, patient safety and quality concerns, appropriate documentation, staffing, policy, and procedures.
• Serve as internal consultant to providers on matters related to communication with patients and families in face of medical error.
• Maintain constant awareness of legislative and regulatory activities related to healthcare risk management.
• Recommend appropriate revisions to new or existing policies and procedures to mitigate risk as well as ways to minimize risk through system changes; reviews and provides recommendations to providers regarding policies as appropriate to maintain adherence to current standards and requirements.
• Collaborate, develop and provide in-service training and education to all service lines to raise awareness to current and emerging risk exposure.
• Participates in data collection and dashboard development for risk management and educational initiatives to meet company and department claims mitigation goals and metrics.
• Collaborate and support insurance and claims teams as needed.
• Participate on other related special projects as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance. Remote-first position with requirements for in-person meetings as needed.
• Some travel required for risk management relevant conferences and educational initiatives – about 15-25%.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study from a certified university or college. Associates in Nursing with minimum clinical experience and equivalent industry-related experience considered.
• Minimum 5 years recent clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting required; critical care, emergency department and/or float pool experience preferred.
• Relevant professional experience in physician, hospital or health system risk management preferred.
• Current unencumbered RN, NP or PA license required. Must maintain licensure during employment.
• Obtain CPHRM within 6 months of meeting eligibility requirements.
• Computer equipment and software requirements: Microsoft Office Suite.
