Job description
POSITION TITLE: Clinician
SUPERVISOR: Executive Director/Clinical Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Must be approved by the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Resident in Counseling or from the Virginia Board of Social Work as a Supervisee in Social Work.
The Resident Counselor or Supervisee in Social Work will guide & counsel clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems, overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes in both individual and group sessions.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Master’s level graduate under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist.
2. Attend all supervision meetings.
3. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
4. Conduct intake and assessments to determine eligibility for services.
5. Complete Service Authorization requests for initial services and continued services.
6. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
7. Conduct family sessions for Intensive In-Home.
8. Act as client advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
9. Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
10. Refer clients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
11. Learn about new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
12. Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with services.
13. Run workshops about mental health issues.
14. Other duties assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
1. Beginning Counselor, who possesses a broad-based knowledge of counseling skills and techniques.
2. Strong human relations, leadership qualities and a strong record of achievement.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Master’s Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 600 hours of counseling experience during a practicum and/or internship experience.
