EnviroScience Inc is Hiring an Avian Field Technician Near Huntingdon, PA

EnviroScience is seeking Avian Field Technicians to support our Natural Resources team with avian projects in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the United States. Avian Field Technicians will work independently or as part of a team depending on the project. Avian Field Technicians are responsible for using standardized sampling methods which may include raptor presence/absence surveys, avian point count and callback surveys, avian nest searches, and habitat assessments. Avian Field Technicians will work under the direct supervision of a project manager or crew leader and assist with completion of specific sampling protocols, equipment operation, and data recording. This position includes extended overnight travel (up to 6 days a week for 8 weeks) with lodging paid for by the project and mileage and meals reimbursed.
Work Locations
Project team will be based remotely out of Pennsylvania. Project work will primarily be completed in Pennsylvania but may also include Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, and other states, as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Completion or current enrollment in a BS in the Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
  • Ability to identify avian species of the Northeast and Midwest United States by sight and call.
  • Ability to complete independent field work
  • Must be willing to travel and work remotely for extended trips, including weekends, throughout the duration of the field season (June - September)
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including long or variable hours
  • Some tasks will require strenuous work and/or long field days in potentially remote locations and adverse conditions
  • Ability to hike extended distances over rough, uneven terrain and sometimes off trail
Recommended
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with sampling/survey techniques and equipment used for avian surveys
  • Strong knowledge of avian taxonomy and behavior
Employment Period
Applicants must be available May 15– August 2024 with the potential for extension based on need and performance. The starting date can be adjusted slightly including a potential later start of June 1, depending on the applicant’s availability.
Other Requirements
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Background check and drug screening required.
