- Must wear personal protective equipment including a full-face respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- A BA or BS in Chemistry, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Industrial Hygiene
- A minimum of 30 credit hours of chemistry courses from an accredited college or university
- Three (3) years of field experience in oil, petroleum, and hazardous substance cleanup operation is preferred but not required. Individuals with less than three (3) years’ experience and recent graduates will be considered.
- Inventory containers, maintain container and sample database.
- Collect samples (e.g., air, soil, water, and waste).
- Perform field chemistry tests (e.g. pH, presence of oxidizers, cyanide and sulfide compounds, flash point and/or flammability, and water solubility,) for the purpose of identifying hazardous characteristics of waste samples.
- Prepare and oversee implementation of waste bulking, consolidation, and/or packaging plans.
- Assist in Determining the appropriate type and quality of analyses to be performed to attain EPA's data quality objectives.
- Calibrate, maintain, and use field screening devices/meters to conduct site surveys. Interpret data and evaluate hazards from field results.
- Oversee the implementation of field sampling plans.
- Develop treatability schemes for wastes. Shall be familiar with, and have experience in, utilizing on site treatment methods; such as, but not limited to, neutralization, precipitation, flocculation, oxidation, reduction, and dissolving of contaminants.
- Keep a written log of activities on sampling and analytical results. Prepare written technical reports of sampling, survey, treatability, and analyses.
