Staff Scientist I (Industrial Hygienist) - Healthcare
Job Summary:
As a part of EH&E's Healthcare Team, a Staff Scientist I, is responsible for the management, program coordination, and technically sound work products that meet internal and external client expectations, on time and within budget. The Staff Scientist I provides technical support in the field at client site assessments, and other related projects with input from the Principal Consultant. The successful applicant will be supported by a team of industry experts who will nurture and develop your career. This position reports directly to the Principal Consultant.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise:
  • Broadly applies scientific and engineering principles to EH&Es work, excellent observational and analytical skill, broad experience with EH&E's work.
  • Conduct mold and moisture assessments, environmental sampling, indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations, qualitative respirator fit-testing, as well as pharmacy personnel competency testing.
  • Support team with execution of infection investigations and forensic engineering assessments.
  • Support field work and data management of environmental monitoring programs related to USP compliance or other Industrial Hygiene sampling projects.
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative industrial hygiene assessments.
  • Develop written management plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Develop observational ability based on experience and functional analytical skills in the discipline.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
Project Management:
  • Prime project management responsibility for developing work on smaller, less complex projects.
  • Scope and budget development, making sure all targets are met.
  • Maintaining client satisfaction, and quality measures on the project are adhered to.
Personnel Management:
  • May provide coaching and mentoring one-on-one or in a team setting.
  • As a Project Manager, responsible for peer-to-peer management of teammates to ensure project is executed according to scope and within budget.
Sales & Client Relations:
  • Develops clients through excellent delivery of projects, while identifying cross-selling services opportunities.
  • Identifying potential business leads and relaying the information to the Managing Principal Consultant or Marketing team.
  • Deliver services on projects that meet or exceed managers expectations.
  • Present a positive, professional image.
QA/QC:
  • Responsible for all project-related QA/QC and Safety issues.
  • Ensures service delivery meets client expectations.
Training:
  • Provides coaching and mentoring, typically in a one-on-one, project-based format. Provides feedback to Principal Consultant on progress of staff coached. Responsible for individual development plan and executes plan within budgetary and time constraints.
  • Possess a willingness and openness to professional development.
Customer Satisfaction:
  • Responsible for customer satisfaction on a project basis.
  • Develop professional working relationship with client.
Communication & Reports:
  • Craft important emails, memos, letters to clients and be the prime author of technical reports.
  • Confer with other personnel (both internally and externally) to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts and be comfortable with presenting technical information to a wide audience.
  • Collect, analyze and reports on environmental data, such as building materials, atmosphere monitoring, and soil or water samples.
Financial Management:
  • Work within timeframes specified by the Principal Consultant, and if timeframe requirements cannot be met or achieved then provide timely feedback.
  • Achieve project profitability goals, including overhead assignments within the specified timeframe.
  • Identify and implement, where appropriate, task-specific changes to improve speed and profitability on projects and be responsible for accounts receivables on managed projects.
  • Hit individual billing/targets.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Associates degree in environmental, physics, applied/physical sciences required.
  • Bachelors degree in a related field physics, applied/physical sciences, industrial hygiene or engineering discipline preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in closely related field required.
  • Possess teamwork, analytical & organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage small projects preferred.
  • Ability to identify potential project opportunities preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of products & Adobe – Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
  • Driver’s license required. Must be comfortable with traveling to and working from different client locations.
  • Must be comfortable with occasional weekend work as needed & on-call emergency duties required.
  • Business ownership thinking and entrepreneurial attitude/self-starter attitude preferred.
  • Ability to be open and flexible to new project experiences.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • This role will require weekly travel.
  • This role will require ability to wear a respirator.
