Start/End Dates: July 2024 - March, 2025

Compensation: $750 per week $1000 monthly for housing

The Resource Assistants Program seeks to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers. You must be:

  • a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

Position Description: 

The Reality Specialist Resource Assistant will provide administrative support and guidance for realty transactions conducted by State Lead Agencies to ensure compliance with Forest Legacy Program guidelines and criteria. This role involves gaining a comprehensive understanding and practical application of realty concepts utilized in landownership adjustments within the National Forest System and federally-funded programs managed by the Forest Service.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and practice land ownership adjustment concepts applicable to federal and state acquisitions of lands, including fee interest and conservation easements.

  • Support senior realty staff in reviewing due diligence processes for active Forest Legacy projects

  • Develop an understanding of federal realty concepts

  • Develop an understanding of Forest Service State, Private, and Tribal Cooperative Forestry programs

Qualifications:

Major studies relevant to this position: Natural Resource Management, Administrative professionals, Pre-law or paralegal, Liberal Arts degrees

  • Interest in natural resource management and conservation

  • Experience in project management

  • Ability to manage multiple and evolving priorities

  • Comfortable working within a team that primarily operates remotely

  • Proactively communicate to obtain information and achieve project objectives
