Product Development Engineer II

Reports To :

Manager, Biomechanics Testing and Simulation

Business Unit Description :

Surgical

Job Title/High Level Position Summary :

Product Development Engineer II / supports development of new and existing orthopedic products primarily through mechanical testing to meet internal requirements and provide evidence used in FDA submissions

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support research and development of new and existing orthopedic products
  • Conduct mechanical testing following industry standards (ASTM) and internal procedures
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of test data and reports
  • Design and manufacture custom fixture components for testing
  • Liaison with external testing vendors
  • Operate and maintain mechanical testing systems (e.g., MTS, Instron, ADMET)
  • Assist in developing product specific testing strategies to support submissions to FDA
  • Support development, review, and revisions of ASTM testing standards
  • Oversee and assist student engineers
  • Linear finite element analysis

Minimum Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, biomedical, or other relevant STEM field

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional, < 2 trips per year

Desired Characteristics :

  • Intuitive understanding of mechanical behavior such as reaction forces, moment arm, torque, stress and strain
  • Hands on attitude regarding mechanical testing, testing tools and software, data acquisition and data reduction
