The Neighborhood Charter Network (NCN) is a grassroots organization that launched in 2016 in order to manage a growing family of schools in Indianapolis, IN. The mission of The Neighborhood Charter Network is to expand educational equity to the communities we serve.


Job Summary:

The Assistant School Leader (ASL) is a key member of the school’s leadership team. The ASL develops and supervises a portfolio of teachers and staff and leads student and staff culture in their assigned school. The ASL is directly coached and supervised by the School Leader, serves on the school’s leadership team, and drives school culture initiatives and vision.

For the 24-25 school year, Enlace Academy is specifically hiring for an Assistant School Leader in Residency to work and learn alongside the School Leader to codify the aligned, K-8 vision for student and staff culture, with a gradual release to the full Assistant School Leader role.

The Assistant School Leader is provided with the skills and training necessary to be a future School Leader.


Essential Job Responsibilities:


Developing Teachers and Instructional Staff

  • Observe instruction to determine trends in teachers’ practice and identify individual teacher’s action steps for improvement in classroom management and engagement
  • Plan and lead effective coaching meetings with individual teachers and professional development for groups of teachers on classroom management and engagement
  • Support teachers’ effective internalization and delivery of lessons that meets students’ needs to increase student engagement and minimize behavioral incidents
  • Provide clear examples and feedback that develop teachers’ instructional best practices to increase student engagement
  • Accurately track data to monitor teachers’ progress toward improvement in classroom management (School Runner, Panorama, Behavior Support Calls, etc.)
  • Lead and/or support Deans in leading data meetings, aimed at reviewing student behavior and determining appropriate action plans (Suspension Data, School Runner, Behavior Support Calls, MTSS Behavior Referrals, etc.)
  • Assist teachers in accessing available resources aimed at improving student learning
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned


Managing Teachers and Staff

  • Serve on and collaborate with other members of the school’s leadership team to provide feedback and recommendations for school-wide initiatives
  • Conduct teacher performance evaluations three times per year
  • Navigate crucial conversations with other adults, maintaining a student-centered focus
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with teachers, leaders, and colleagues
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned


Leading School-Wide Systems

  • Evaluate and manage systems and routines to promote a positive school culture.
  • Assist School Leader and Deans with maintaining adequate staff coverage.
  • Serve as a member of the school-wide attendance and safety team and lead specific, student-safety initiatives such as the bullying and threat assessment protocols & policies
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned


Driving Student and Staff Culture

  • With guidance from the School Leader, implement and progress monitor student and staff culture initiatives (e.g., community meetings, teacher appreciation initiatives)
  • Lead the school environment by collaborating with the culture team to develop and implement initiatives that foster a school-wide culture of excellence and achievement.
  • Develop rapport with parents and families to enhance ability to provide assistance with a partnership between the home and school.
  • Support teachers to reinforce a school culture of high behavioral expectations that enables a consistent focus on academic results.
  • Maintain adequate expertise to effectively coach and develop staff on classroom management best practices such as Teaching with Love and Logic, Restorative Practices, and Teach Like a Champion.
  • Own the development and implementation of the school’s character development program to build and reinforce positive self-identity and necessary character strengths.
  • Along with the school leaders, plan and implement a comprehensive and evolving professional development program for teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  • Supervises extra and co-curricular activities, including schoolwide performances and showcases, in the school at the direction of the principal.
  • Support the implementation and execution of MTSS
  • Serve as a member of the Title IX team and serve as a Title IX investigator
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned


Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Building Level Administration, Educational Leadership or a related field, or currently enrolled in a program to obtain a Building Level Administration License
  • Valid Indiana Teacher Certification
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Track record of results of positively impacting school culture and developing adults
  • Excellent instruction and communication skills with an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of building-level administration experience
