The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation. We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.
About the position
Information Technology (IT) provides technology services, support, and solutions to drive the mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and ensure that the data sources of the enterprise systems inform and support the strategic direction and intent of the churchwide organization.
People delivering and advancing purposeful technology solutions in a secure, friendly, consistent, impactful, collaborative, and cost-effective manner to accompany people in creating value and accomplishing the goal, purpose, and vision of the ELCA.
This position will be responsible for tracking digital communications to all ELCA constituents within our digital (email, web, social, etc.) ecosystem, providing performance reports and analysis on all email/direct mail appeals, websites, online giving, cross-channel communications, as well as all other aspects of our digital communications systems, with the goal of increasing digital effectiveness and engagement. This position will also be the main point of contact for all IT digital analysis / reporting needs and will work directly with our Product Team for report prioritization, design, and development.
This is a full-time, regular, exempt (salary), hybrid - Chicago-based position. This position has work that requires being in the Lutheran Center office as needed.
Candidates for this remote position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
  1. Data Collection and Preparation:
    1. Gathers data from various sources, both internal and external.
    2. Cleans, validates, and transforms data to ensure its accuracy and consistency.
    3. Collaborates with the Development Team, data analytics vendors and the Sr. Enterprise Architect on maintaining enterprise data sources, datasets and the ELCA Datalake.
    4. Supports and collaborates with the Development Services Team on email marketing efforts, reporting, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), constituent engagement, and measures the success of a digital marketing campaign.
  2. Data Analysis:
    1. Conducts thorough data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
    2. Builds predictive and prescriptive models to support decision-making.
    3. Provides ongoing analysis to track progress and identify areas for optimization.
    4. Monitors the performance of key metrics and KPIs.
    5. Translates data insights into actionable recommendations to improve the success of our email campaigns and other digital communications.
    6. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement data-driven strategies.
    7. Provides support to third-party vendors for data needs.
  3. Data Visualization:
    1. Creates visually appealing and informative reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
    2. Communicates data findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
    3. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to tailor reports to specific needs.
  4. Data Quality Assurance:
    1. Establishes and enforces data quality standards and best practices.
    2. Identifies and resolves data quality issues as they arise.
  5. Documentation:
    1. Maintains clear and organized documentation of data sources, methodologies, and analysis results.
    2. Develops and maintains enterprise-wide report template and Reports Catalog.
  6. Leads reporting design and development efforts, in collaboration with the Director for Solutions Advancement and the Sr. Enterprise Architect. Offers technical guidance to the Report Developer III.
  7. Manages weekly email marketing efforts for the Frontend Developer team to ensure emails are sent according to the marketing calendar. Works closely with the Digital Marketing Manager in Development Services.
  8. Assists the email marketing team with scheduling emails through BBIS and Engaging Networks.
  9. Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Report Developer III (1 FTE)
2. Frontend Developer II (2 FTEs)
Requirements
1. 5 years of experience in a related field. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science) or equivalent combination of education and experience as a Data Analyst or similar role. 2 years of supervisory experience.
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
3. Experience in Agile methodology, with the relevant tools, such as Azure DevOps or JIRA.
4. Preferred experience in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Python, R, Excel).
5. Preferred experience with Snowflake and/or Sql server, creating complex queries.
6. Preferred experience creating reports in PowerBI or SSRS.
7. Knowledge of Workday, Blackbaud products, and Engaging Networks is a plus.
8. Effective communication skills to convey complex findings in a clear and understandable manner.
9. Ability to estimate and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
10. Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
11. Ability to work independently and in a team.
12. Strong interpersonal skills, team player with ability to work independently and efficiently.
13. Stay up to date on emerging technologies. Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products.
14. Appreciation for the mission, vision, and values of the ELCA.

Physical
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for extended periods of time as well as lifting of equipment. Travel
Position requires minimal travel to software vendor conferences, training, and related ELCA organizations may be required including flying, driving. Valid driver's license required.
