    POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position supports classroom teachers and the teacher of the deaf with general education classroom and small group/one on one instruction, supervision, student feedback, and redirection. The DHH paraprofessional support position is designed to provide support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in accessing the general curriculum and specialized instruction. Check-in often with students to ensure they are hearing directions and instruction correctly and support them if they are not. This position is not expected to know sign language but may find that learning some basic signs will help support the students they support. Develop and promote good community relations among stakeholders.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Facilitate and support small groups and/or one on one instruction to ensure child is doing what has been asked and comprehending what is being taught..
    Elicit responses from every member of the group.
    Ensure understanding of material.
    Promote a learning environment that respects the dignity of the child and is perceived by students as fair and consistent.
    Support a learning environment that establishes routines and provides for student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality.
    Encourage a learning environment that is safe for responding and questioning, even for the shyest student.
    Collaborate with team members regarding activities, planning and resources for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
    Provide assistance to and supervision of students within the school and classroom if needed..
    Prepare materials for various types of interventions.
    Assist with test administration, scoring, data entry, and report generation.
    Actively participate in PLCs and other required training.
    Apply and implement knowledge, skills and new understandings to support instructional programming.
    Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
    High school graduate or equivalent.
    Bachelor of Arts (preferred).
    Some sign language knowledge (preferred).

    Has the ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
    Has the ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
    Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds.
    Frequent sitting, bending, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
    Occasional jogging/running.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
    May encounter noise, odors and bodily fluids.
    Mostly clean and comfortable.
    REPORTS TO:
    Principal or designee.
    LOCATION:

    SALARY:
    Hourly rate between $22.78-$25.77 per hour based upon education and prior related experience.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
    CLOSING DATE:
