Professional Engineer (PE) Job Description

We are currently seeking an NBIS Certified Engineer with a valid Professional Engineering (PE) license to work out of our Lacombe, LA office. This individual should have at least 1 yar experience working in an engineering field, particularly performing bridge inspection work, to be eligible for this role. The candidate shall have a strong drive and work ethic as well as independence and problem-solving skills. The individual shall also possess a team-oriented attitude and be a reliable and dependable employee who has a passion for producing quality engineering deliverables and working outdoors. This position will include company-paid travel ranging from single day trips to multi-week trips – so a desire to travel is a requirement. Responsibilities will include leading field inspections of vehicular bridges, load ratings, reporting, and detailed drawing assignments that require construction-plan reading abilities. This candidate will serve as a bridge inspection team leader in the field and will perform tasks associated with project scheduling, planning, coordination, team management, and general project management for bridge inspection projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and perform as the engineer of record on load ratings for bridges using AASHTO specifications and various load rating software.
  • Perform field inspections and bridge safety inspections for various Departments of Transportation in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas, and Arkansas as well as local government and private clients.
  • Perform structural analyses of primary structural elements with deterioration models based off field measurements.
  • Utilize various non-destructive evaluation (NDE) equipment in field environments including Ultrasonic Flaw Detection, Dye Penetrant testing, Magnetic Particle testing, Resistograph testing to determine deterioration of structural elements.
  • Interpret data from field inspections and test results to create comprehensive bridge inspection reports that detail bridge conditions and defects regarding the structural integrity of bridge inventory.
  • Perform as a Deputy Project Manager on structural inspection contracts and coordinate with Project Managers to ensure quality and efficient work completion.
  • Perform scheduling, team coordination, report progress tracking, deliverables organization and submittal tasks for structural inspection projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Strong foundation in structural analysis
  • Clear communication and organizational skills – both written and oral
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
  • CAD Drafting Skills (Bentley or AutoDesk Products)
  • Professional Rope Access Certification is a plus
  • Commercial Diver Certification is a plus

Percentages of Job Duties:

  • 25% - Field Inspections
  • 50% - Field Inspection Reporting
  • 15% - Project Management Assistance
  • 10% - Load Rating/Structural Analysis

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
