Energy Solutions - USA is Hiring a Remote Senior Data Project Manager (Remote - US)

We are currently seeking a Senior Data Project Manager to join our Policy & Ratings team. Our Policy & Ratings Team supports the development of building codes, product standards, and other policies, as well as rating systems that assess energy and environmental performance metrics. The Data Project Manager will also play a substantial role in supporting electrification incentive programs, such as California’s flagship TECH Clean California program, which makes it easier for households to gain access to the benefits of electric heat pumps for space and water heating. In this role, you will work with data scientists, policy analysts, engineers, and program managers. You will have a broad impact on state, national, and international energy markets through our work for major utilities, local and state governments, non-governmental organizations, and other national leaders in energy efficiency and clean energy policy. This unique opportunity, paired with Energy Solutions’ mission-driven approach, creates a perfect environment for individuals who want to apply their skills and energy towards an expeditious transition to a sustainable, equitable future.

You will bring strong analytical capabilities and communication skills to collaborate with internal and external players to define and execute technical projects in partnership with our data science and engineering teams. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience conducting data analysis and managing complex technical projects and will enjoy working with a passionate team to understand, plan, manage, and execute the intricacies of data projects.

This position is perfect for individuals who have strong skills in translating complex technical ideas into simple language, are highly process-oriented, and can inform and provide guidance on decision-making.

Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with colleagues and external stakeholders to understand the overall goals and constraints of data and technical projects and identify compatible strategies
  • Working with colleagues and external stakeholders to understand the required tasks, their dependencies, level of effort, and which team member skillsets are the right fit for the task
  • Working with technical staff to develop methodology and approaches to data analysis and solve problems when challenges arise; synthesizing conversations into pragmatic next steps
  • Fostering a positive and collaborative work environment for project teams
  • Developing and maintaining project timelines and organizing “sprints” toward project milestones
  • Orchestrating work using Kanban-style task tracking systems (such as Monday.com): writing task specification, prioritizing tasks, assigning tickets and following-up on their completion
  • Working with the team to develop and coordinate processes that ensure quality control
  • Managing data and technical projects to be completed on schedule and within budget
  • Developing and monitoring project budgets, planning and updating assigned hours, documenting work completed, preparing and approving invoices
  • Facilitating the progress of multiple projects and bringing them to conclusion
  • Communicating project progress and challenges to managers or directors who are providing project oversight

Minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and eight years of professional work experience (graduate school years applicable)
  • Data fluency: a strong functional understanding of data granularity, data pipelines, relational databases, data visualization, and scripted approaches to data analysis (enough to guide work)
  • Experience conducting data analysis, including aspects of data analysis such as data visualization (using Tableau or Power BI), data storage, data manipulation, and modeling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)
  • Effective and thoughtful communicator, with demonstrated ability both to write technically and facilitate directions and insights to multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., energy modelers, software developers, non-technical program managers)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including experience resolving errors in modeling and other analysis to ensure results are reasonable
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with an ability to work and drive multiple deadlines and projects
  • Interest in developing subject matter expertise as it relates to building energy modeling, building codes, space and water heating, and various other topics within clean energy
  • Collaborative work ethic with a team mindset
  • Willingness to learn new technical skills and adapt to change

Desirable qualifications:

  • Familiarity with BEM software tools such as EnergyPlus, California Building Energy Code Compliance (CBECC), Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment (IES VE), EnergyPro, Design Builder, Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, DOE-2, and eQUEST
  • Proficiency in Amazon Web Services, GitHub, and Tableau
  • Experience with Agile frameworks of Scrum or Kanban management
  • Work and/or educational experience related to clean energy, especially related to topics such as: public policy, regulations, building codes, building energy modeling, building science, incentive programs, demand-side management programs, energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, electrification, space and water heating, electrical infrastructure, and energy equity

Salary DOE: $97,000$- $137,000/Annually
