ENCOS, Inc. is Hiring an Environmental Scientist Near Baton Rouge, LA

ENCOS is seeking an individual with high integrity and a bachelor’s degree in Coastal, Physical, Biological, Environmental, Natural Science, or related degree to fulfill a position with us as an Environmental Scientist. The Environmental Scientist will fill a role that encompasses data collection for coastal restoration projects, data processing, basic data analysis, datum conversions, pipeline/wetland delineation, familiarity with oysters and/or freshwater mussels and interact with clients to develop project approach and implementation. We are looking for an individual with the ability to take ownership of projects and the desire to advance their career within our Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibility

· Working in estuarine, riverine, wetland, and offshore environments

· Maintain, integrate, and calibrate oceanographic and water quality instruments such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) and various water quality equipment

· Download, service, and field calibrate deployed water quality instruments

· Properly clean instruments and prepare them for storage upon completion of the project

· Maintain instrument firmware updates under the direction of senior staff

· Ability to adapt to different projects and tasks as needed

· Basic Mathematical aptitude

· Proficient in the use of computers and various software

· Physically fit: Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds, endure long hours in a boat conducting field operations

· Basic mechanical comprehension and construction skills

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Self-motivated and dependable

· Reliable

Minimum Requirements

· Local field work is currently estimated around 40% per month

· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

· Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check

· Must wear, when required, Personal Protective Equipment

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

· Knowledge of small boat operation, navigation, and towing boats

· USCG or Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries safe boating certification

. Familiar with meteorolgic instruments is a plus

· Have experience or willing to learn the operation of various oceanographic and hydrographic instrument such as multiparameter datasonde, ADCP, data loggers, telemetry systems, discharge measurements, and meteorological instruments

· Technical report writing skills

· Certified SCUBA Diver

· Additional course work or field experience working with Oysters and/or freshwater mussels.

· Wetland Delineation experience and or certification.
