Emporia Police Department is Hiring a Police Officer Near Emporia, KS

The Emporia Police Department is looking for individuals looking to “be the change” in our community. Law enforcement is a fast-paced and exciting career field. It requires someone to be able to work on their own and in a team environment. We are looking for new recruits or lateral transfers. The position of police officer performs duties in the protection of life and property and the preservation of order in the City of Emporia. This position enforces all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances and assists with investigations. Patrol duties include enforcing traffic laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. This employee will be required to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with emergency situations.

As a police officer recruit the starting pay will be $21.84 per hour. After one year of service, the pay increases to $26.21 per hour. Lateral Transfers are welcome with starting pay depending on experience.

· Patrol Officer pay range - $26.21 to $41.43 per hour.

· Master Police Officer after 8 years of law enforcement experience. Lateral transfer years of service will count towards Master Police Officer.

· Master Police Officer pay range – $33.47 to $52.90 per hour.

· Lateral transfer pay is based on experience.

· 12-hour shifts with a built-in 4 hours of overtime per pay period.

· Associate’s Degree adds $.50 per hour to pay.

· Bachelor’s Degree adds $1 per hour to pay.

· Spanish bi-lingual adds $1 per hour to pay.

· Ability to earn 40 hours of compensatory time.

Requirements:

Must be 21 years of age

Must live in Lyon County KS or surrounding counties or be willing to relocate

Must be a United States Citizen

No Felony Convictions

No Convictions or Diversions for Domestic Violence

Must have a valid Kansas driver's license or be able to obtain a Kansas driver's license
