Job DescriptionJob Description OverviewThe Economic Research Associate - Master’s Level, is an intermediate level economics research job position for recent and soon to be Master Graduates (Spring 2024 to Summer 2024) with a major in Economics. As an Economic Research Associate, you will provide research support to the firm’s economists.
Your day-to-day work will include activities such as reviewing legal documents and analyzing data, creating and manipulating large data sets, writing computer software code to convert various types of data into a usable format, performing statistical calculations, assisting in the calculation of economic damages in litigation, taking part in calls with the firm’s clients, and assisting in the drafting and writing of legal documents.
Successful candidates in this role must be able to critically analyze legal and economic documents, formulate critiques, and construct and defend methodologies for economic analyses. Successful candidates must be able to adapt their on the job experiences and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
As an Economic Research Associate, you will be required to become proficient with the use of STATA, including construction of large datasets, statistical tabulations of data (including concepts like regression modeling), and intermediate level STATA computer programming. You will also need to be able to program and perform advanced data analysis tabulations in programs like Excel, R, or Python.
As an Economic Research Associate, you will be closely involved with case work with our firm’s researchers and economists. The successful person in this job position will be highly motivated and deeply interested in the types of economic research we perform. An Economic Research Associate needs to be flexible and organized when operating with our firm’s multiple competing deadlines and priorities.
Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate would be a recent graduate or a Spring/Summer of 2024 graduate with a Masters in Economics. Our ideal person is highly motivated and wants to learn to use economic data in a real world situation to answer real economic questions. Our ideal candidate needs to be very comfortable and working closely with other professionals in a close knit environment. Our ideal candidate is someone who is able to, eventually, envision a specialized role for themselves in our close-knit boutique firm.
Our ideal candidate needs to be able to take directions, while simultaneously being self-motivated on a day-to-day basis. Our ideal candidate is someone who is very detail oriented, articulate, and a good writer. Our ideal candidate is someone who is flexible enough to work on different projects simultaneously.
Our close-knit boutique firm environment will allow you to learn and gain experience in many different areas that can serve as a springboard to additional opportunities in the field of economic research and data science analysis both within our firm and at other firms.
Requirements
  • M.A. in Economics, Spring or Summer of 2023
  • Experience with using statistical programs; prior STATA experience is a plus
  • Aptitude for and understanding of basic computer software programming routines; previous computer programming experience (particularly in Python or R) is a plus
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person and in writing; prior writing experience (or educational background) is a plus
  • Must have superior analytical skills, detail oriented
  • Ability to summarize and effectively communicate information
  • Experience with using and creating Excel computer spreadsheets
Other Requirements
  • Work physically in our San Antonio office at least 4 days a week
