9Program Lead/Automotive Tech General Manager

This position holds responsibility for the success of the Automotive Technology program at the College for Technical Education. The General Manager/Program Lead must ensure that a positive, upbeat, diversified, interesting and active learning environment occurs in both classrooms and labs, giving the students relevant and worthwhile experiences daily. The responsibilities include planning, organizing and implementing an effective instructional training program in a professional learning environment that guides, encourages and enables students to develop into industry professionals.

The College for Technical Education (CTE) is a non-profit technical college located in Lexington, KY. The College has Council on Occupational Education accredited programs that offer certifications in high-demand, high-pay professions.

Pay and Benefits:

The position has a salary of between $65,000 and $90,000 per year, depending upon qualifications and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties
*Works with the College Director in hiring of all automotive tech staff
  • This role assumes responsibility and is accountable for developing excellent student/customer service practices
  • Provides enthusiastic leadership to help shape students and staff attitudes and builds/maintains high morale
  • Strong coaching skills and the determination to teach, inspire, and lead future trades professionals
  • Fulfills responsibilities using sound business management practices.
  • Supervise, recruit, train, support and assist adjunct instructors as needed
*Plans, motivates, and coordinates the activities of the Automotive Tech program and oversees the retail area of service for CTE.
  • Actively work with the College director, admissions, recruiters and instructors to fill cohorts with students who are capable of graduating and finding employment in the automotive technology field
  • Create and update classroom syllabi, curriculum, lab experiences and lesson plans which will enable students to meet the needs of local industry, excel in the workplace, and be familiar with the latest technology and industry practices.
  • Oversee, develop and execute active and diverse learning experiences which retain the interest of students while transmitting information and developing skills in the most effective manner, with a heavy emphasis on learning by doing, while maintaining a structured learning environment that complies with the course syllabus and course plan
  • Trains and motivates staff and students in all aspects of the automotive tech program.
  • Create, establish and communicate clear objectives and well-defined competencies for the program and all learning activities
  • Ensure classroom and lab are prepared for daily learning activities
  • Structure classes in Canvas to support student learning
  • Establish and enforcing appropriate rules and procedures for the Automotive Technology program.
*Must be current in all automotive industry practices and trends related to all aspects of the automotive technology industry
  • Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher.
  • Develop, plan, organize and maintain effective classroom management strategies and oversee all other auto tech instructors.
  • Develop, implement and monitor safety policies and procedures for all automotive related activities, equipment, and tools used in automotive repair trades
  • Monitors the daily operating control, recommending improved courses of action where necessary.
  • Coordinates with CFO/Controller to ensure that all business records (analysis and forecasts) are maintained accurately
  • Ensures that the retail garage is operating efficiently and profitably.
  • Resolves any/all customer complaints in the service department
  • Ensure objectives for all program students are reflected on each syllabi and match the module sign offs in the Student Information System
  • Ensure that students are retained and that they graduate, complete, pass any relevant licensure exams, and are placed, and that all student data is updated on a real-time basis.
  • Meet or exceed performance metrics for the program established by College Director and the CTE Board.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality in all circumstances, especially concerning student information. Adhere to FERPA requirements and guidelines.
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with all College, local, City, State and Federal guidelines
  • Schedule industry professionals for specialized presentations and training where appropriate
  • Be an active and participative member of the CTE Faculty/Staff team
  • Actively ensure program follows all guidelines and conditions necessary to meet the standards of COE accreditation, including completion of Employee Verification forms and maintaining records of contacts with industry partners
  • Assist with biannual Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) meetings and ensure accreditation compliance. Maintain communication with OAC. Take direction and implement decisions made by the committee
  • Actively participate in documenting, collecting, and placing Standard 2 criteria evidence following the guidelines sheet into the COE program folder biannually meeting all deadlines.
  • Ensure program spending is within established budgets, and maintain inventory for all instructional items
  • Comply with CTE/Employment Solutions Policies and Procedures
  • Qualifications:
  • 4 years' experience in industry required
  • Minimum of two years successful teaching experience at an accredited tech school
  • Bachelors Degree in Automotive Technician or related field
  • Strong communications and presentation skills
  • Current ASE Certified Master Technician
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the use of the internet, Microsoft Office products and email
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate with students, staff and colleagues; read academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.; operate personal computer and audio-visual equipment; stand or sit for up to one to three hours at a time; drive to off-site meetings or conferences or to observe student interns; move around campus for classes and meetings.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 30 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
