SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) Specialist is responsible for utilizing holistic thinking and a strengths-based approach for the facilitation of weekly groups with individuals dually diagnosed with an intellectual and/or developmental disability and mental health condition. The PSR Specialist will maintain the high-quality, person-centered program in accordance with the mission and vision of Emory Valley Center (EVC). Person-centered thinking should be the framework for decision-making in daily work and service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans with measurable and obtainable goals for skill development to maximize successful community integration and independence in the areas of learning applicable to the rules and program requirements for Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
· Monitor and assess functioning and progress in meeting identified goals through observation and consultation with person-supported and Circle of Support (COS).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
· Understanding of organizational dynamics.
· Working knowledge of mental illness, psychotropic medications, and human behavior.
· Understanding of supportive counseling and behavioral management.
· Ability to actively listen and speak publicly.
· Understanding the funding sources and entitlement programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
· Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees, and the general public, demonstrating sensitivity to corporate needs, employee goodwill, and the agency’s public image.
· Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral, electronic and written form.
· Excellent crisis, time-management, advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills that promote effective teamwork.
· Ability to exercise good judgment, responsibility and independent action as well as model appropriate behavior.
· Ability to establish a therapeutic and supportive relationship with individuals receiving services.
· Utilize electronic record keeping system as required for agency operations.
· Ensure confidentiality regarding sensitive material including applicant’s, employees, and individual’s right to privacy and protected health information, following Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and HITECH.
· Ability to lift 50 pounds (weight of average manual wheelchair when chair is empty).
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s Degree earned from an accredited college or university in a human services field which may include special education, social work, psychology, or counseling.
· Prior experience working with individuals diagnosed with an intellectual/developmental disability preferred.
· Prior experience with group therapy format preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
· DIDD and MCO designated online training, First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification course within first 90 days of employment, Supervisory Training, and any required training.
· Emory Valley Center Orientation.
· Valid TN driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
· Person-Centered Thinking training.
· Crisis Management training.
· Continued education as applicable and available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Occasional lifting, stretching and other physical exertion during positioning of individuals supported equipment.
· Works a flexible schedule as determined necessary. Overtime may be required throughout the year.
· Work will take place in an office setting as well as in the community and EVC homes/programs.
· May be exposed to various medical conditions, communicable diseases and pest infestations.
· While performing the duties of the job, employee travels by automobile, and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
· May occasionally assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory individuals.
