Description

The Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences (BSHES), Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, seeks scholars for faculty appointments at all academic ranks, in tenure-track and research-track positions. Multiple appointments are anticipated. We are seeking candidates that will contribute to well-established areas within the Department (health equity; implementation science; community-engaged research; substance use; sexual and reproductive health; intervention research; HIV prevention and treatment; program evaluation; chronic health prevention and management), and to expanding areas of research (racism as a determinant of health; mental health; violence; health and social policy; community and social change processes; complexity science and systems science; behavioral genetics; LGBTQ health). Individuals with strong methodological backgrounds, commitment to public health equity, and a commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments will be preferred. Candidates for senior positions should have an established record of scholarship, extramural funding as a principal investigator, and evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring. Candidates for tenure-track positions must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and to mentor and teach graduate students.

The BSHES departmental mission is to better the health of all people by advancing knowledge and training tomorrow’s leaders on how to change behavior and social conditions that influence health. The BSHES department matriculates approximately 100 MPH students per year and has a well-supported PhD program. The BSHES department comprises 32 primary and nearly 30 adjunct faculty, many of whom are affiliated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Carter Center, and the Georgia Department of Public Health.

BSHES Departmental faculty hold >$40 million in yearly extramural research funding. BSHES Department faculty are leaders in several interdisciplinary research centers at Emory including the Emory Prevention Research Center, Center for Reproductive Health Research in the Southeast, Center for AIDS Research, Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance, Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory, Global Health Institute, Winship Cancer Institute, PRISM Health (Programs, Research and Innovation for Sexual and Minority Health) Research Group, and Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance.

The Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) at Emory University employs over 200 faculty members and enrolls over 1,300 graduate students per year in its MPH, MSPH, and doctoral programs. RSPH is ranked 4th in “Best Public Health Schools” by US News and World Report. RSPH enjoys impressive physical resources with state-of-the-art IT and classroom facilities, open spaces for collaboration and group work, dedicated student spaces, small seminar rooms and large lecture halls. RSPH is located on the Emory University campus in Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory’s Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and a number of laboratory and clinical facilities.
