JOB DESCRIPTION

The Emory Brain Health Center (BHC) is comprised of Emory system-wide clinical, research, and academic services for the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Emory Sleep Center. Employed under the Emory School of Medicine, part of the Emory University, the Editor & Technical Writer assists with planning, writing, and editing documents within necessary writing guidelines and requirements for a variety of medical and research disciplines within the neurosciences. The leader directly reports to the BHC Vice President and Executive Administrator and is accountable to the BHC departments and centers.

  • Assists in compiling and writing manuscripts, grant proposals, letters of support, case studies and abstracts for scientific and medical journals, grant/proposal applications and promotional initiatives.
  • Edits and proofreads grant proposals and manages timely submission to organizational entities (including RAS, OSP, etc.) for internal and external grant applications.
  • Edits abstracts, scientific/clinical project summaries, case reports, narrative reviews, posters, and presentations.
  • Reviews medical writing deliverables and advises faculty and learners to ensure document consistency, clarity, and formatting.
  • Supports faculty with developing and updating biographical sketches.
  • Promotes writing services within the department, including presenting at workshops and developing tip sheets.
  • Performs related approved responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree and three (3) years of scientific writing experience including contributions to articles published in scientific journals and formal papers, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training in technical writing or scientific journalism.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D.

Required skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively in a challenging, milestone-driven environment.
  • Solid understanding of scientific methods, science, and medical terminology in a variety of disciplines.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills and the ability to organize and present complex material clearly, concisely, and effectively.
  • High standard for quality, excellent attention to detail and a methodical, diligent approach to proofreading, ensuring consistency in style, grammar, and punctuation. Experience and skill in document layout and formatting with keen attention to detail.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
