Description

The Atlanta Single-cell Omics and Analytics Initiative (ASCOmAI) was established as a joint initiative of Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech), and Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). The initiative aims to meet the following critical needs in the field by 1) providing support for experimental design of appropriate single-cell genomics strategies, 2) providing advice on appropriate statistical power consideration when designing projects, 3) providing analytical support for analysis of complex single-cell datasets, 4) processing advanced single-cell and spatial single-cell samples, and 5) providing analytical support for complex spatial omics data.

The candidate for this position will have tremendous opportunity to contribute to cutting edge research in the areas of cancer, neurobiology, developmental biology, bioengineering, and more. The ideal candidate should be motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, have a positive attitude and passion for research. The Bioinformatics Analyst will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with multi-institutional partners. The Bioinformatics Analyst will work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support, and has good communication skills with co-workers, the management team, PI’s, research staff, students, and other support services.

Our lab is located in the Health Sciences Research Building-II (HSRB-II), a beautiful new building embedded with biologists, engineers, and clinicians. Relatedly, over 45,000 square feet of new biotech incubator space will be completed by 2024, which will further increase our ability to translate science. This position will work in-person in the new space in HSRB-II, with the possibility of hybrid options if conditions allow.

The Bioinformatics Analyst will work with various single-cell datasets and provide data analytics support to answer specific questions in conjunction with study investigators. Activities include: providing experimental design consultation; managing single-cell datasets; preparing documentation, scripts, and tools; troubleshooting data issues; visualizing results; and communicating results with the PI and collaborators.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintains software, hardware and the network in a bioinformatics setting or molecular modeling laboratory.
  • Supervises regular updates and recommends state-of-the-art enhancements.
  • Analyzes high throughput screening data and performs structure activity analyses to generate predictive correlations.
  • Applies a limited range of molecular modeling tools to refinement of high throughput screening hits.
  • Presents the models in a form that allows users to make decisions concerning the direction of an experimental program.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

SPECIFIC DETAILS:

  • Understands the PI’s or collaborator’s research goals.
  • Provides experimental design consultation and planning for data generation.
  • Provides a variety of data analysis solutions and designs standard or custom workflows.
  • Works with:
    • single-cell RNA-Seq and proteomics data
    • whole genome sequence data
    • single-cell ATAC-seq and methylation data
    • single-cell immune repertoire data
    • spatial transcriptome and proteome data.
  • Manages, analyzes, and disseminates single-cell datasets provided by investigators.
  • Presents the results in a form that is consistent with the user’s research goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in biology, biostatistics, chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related science or IT-based discipline; some student-related experience gained through formal Master's-level academic training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate should have demonstrable experience in high-throughput single-cell and spatial data analysis.
  • Proficiency in using R/Bioconductor, Python, Linux command line, computational clusters, or cloud environments is desirable.
  • Excellent data management, programming, and communication skills are preferred.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, resume, a brief statement of research skills, experience, and future goals, and the names and contact information of three references.
