Overview

4G Cardiology is a Cardiac Telemetry 24-bed Intermediate / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) that provides nursing care to adult patients with cardiac conditions. 4G Cardiology is the first Step Down Unit in Georgia to receive a Gold Beacon award for providing excellent nursing care to patients.

• Care is provided on a 24 hour basis to patients with diagnosis including Advanced Heart Failure and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD) , Cardiomyopathy, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Dysrhythmias, Valvar Heart Disease, Congenital Heart Disease , pre and post Cardiac Catheterization, Structural Heart, and Electrophysiology procedural care.
• The RN skill level and flexible nurse-patient ratio allows for frequent monitoring and assessment, and use of designated vasoactive and anti-arrhythmic medications in stable situations.
• The clinical services provided include telemetry monitoring, patient and family education, physical assessment, post procedure recovery, pre-procedure monitoring and preparation, oxygen therapy, blood administration, pain management, IV therapy, sheath removal, radial hemostasis band management, and medication administration.
• Remote telemetry monitoring is provided by Cardiac Monitor technicians to other areas of the hospital 24 hours a day via placement of telemetry.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Serves as a resource person to physicians, nurses, patients, and family members.
• Applies principles of adult learning to plan and conduct educational sessions to promote staff development, student competence, and positive patient/family outcomes.
• Demonstrates foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience.
• Completes employee conference, risk management and unit management reports within specified time frames.
• Provides and coordinates the resources needed within the unit to provide optimal patient outcomes.
• Role models time management skills through example.
• Ensures compliance and adherence with stated policies and procedures for the unit. Remains informed of innovative clinical trends through bench marking and evidence based practice.
• Demonstrates proficiency in teaching and precepting skills.
• Facilitates development of unit preceptors including effective delegation and interpersonal skills.
• Assists the CNS and Unit Director to conduct annual educational needs assessment.
• Coordinates unit based clinical orientation program for new staff, students and preceptors.
• Works with preceptors to individualizes unit orientation.
• Assists departmental or unit teams in the developing annual competency checklists.
• Under direction of the CNS and Unit Director, assists with meeting the education and training needs of staff.
• Assumes a staff level leadership and resource role with the interdisciplinary team.
• Collaborates with management and patient/family advisory council to develop standardized teaching materials for patient and family learning needs.
• Utilizes patient and staff satisfaction feedback as a factor in designing refining and revising education programs.
• Achieves points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain position.
• Is comfortable working as an Acute Care RN bedside 50% of the time

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
• Two years experience as an RN with a minimum of two years of experience in the area of concentration.
• Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
• Nursing certification preferred. Completion of formal preceptor training workshop.
• BLS required and ACLS may be required in designated departments.
