JobDuties : Screens various cytologic preparations with accuracy andcompetency; identifies abnormal malignant or other significantphysiologic states while exercising judgment based onclassification criteria established by the department.

Signs outnegative gynecologic specimen reports.and passes yearly PapProficiency Testing.Assists in the performance of fine needleaspiration as requested.

Includes advising clinician of properspecimen collection performing rapid staining and providingspecimen adequacy assessment.

Obtains patient history and clinicalinformation as necessary and requests collection of additionalspecimen for further studies when indicated.

Follows departmentalprocedures for quality assurance.Ensures that remedial actions aretaken whenever test systems and Quality Assurance deviate fromestablished performance specifications.

Prepares and processescertain specimens in the Cytopreparatory lab when necessary.Remainsfamiliar with Cytopreparatory techniques.

Participates in departmentrecordkeeping including work volumes safety records continuingeducation records and quality assurance records and activities asrequested.

Maintains equipment participates in establishedpreventive maintenance program and alerts Analytical Specialist ofany equipment problems.

Assists in proper handling and storage ofsupplies notifies Analytical Specialist when inventory islow.Assists in the evaluation and validation of new instruments andnew technologies as needed under the supervision of the AnalyticalSpecialist and Doctoral Director.

Participation in completion ofassigned initial and subsequent competency assessment examinationsrequired and maintains working knowledge of applicable LaboratoryInformation System programs and system changes.

Participates in thetraining and orientation of new employees.Work is typicallyperformed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying alljob specific obligations and complying with all organizationpolicies and procedures.
