POSITION: Behavioral Health Technician (Full-Time Regular)
SHIFT: 8-hour shifts day/swing/NOC
LOCATION: North Hollywood.
HOURLY RATE: $20.00-$23.00 DOE
SUMMARY: Mental Health Support specialist/BHT is responsible for developing and maintaining a therapeutic environment with clients by providing supportive services to individuals experiencing mental health symptoms. Daily tasks include but are not limited to overseeing daily chores, coordinating and transporting clients safely to all daily activities, ensuring the clients arrive on time to all scheduled activities, monitoring and documenting client self-administration medications, facilitating therapeutic and life skills activities, identifying clients who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, random drug screening of clients, observe and report positive as well as any negative behavior in daily shift logs. A specialist must be able to motivate the clients, willing to be active in the day-to-day needs and duties of clients and technology proficient.
DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Program Director, the BHT position supervises clients to ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment. A BHT will provide an environment for clients (with social, behavioral, academic and/or emotional issues), that allows for progress towards treatment goals, emotional growth, academic success, and positive relationships. Assist new clients in becoming acclimated to the program. Responsible for supervising and monitoring clients during regular business hours. Other duties may include taking attendance, supporting life skills and other educational and process groups, participation on field trips or excursions, therapeutic groups and workshops, Client move-in and moves, help with shopping and menu planning, food preparation, monitoring the residence housekeeping needs, and other program activities as requested. BHT’s will assist in providing transportation of clients as directed. Under the direction of the Case Managers, enforce limits for participant behavior; administer consequences, privileges, and personal coaching. Performs other assignments or duties as required and/or requested.
A BHT takes full responsibility for client care on his/her shifts and is responsible for handling all medical emergencies, under the supervision of the Program Director, Therapist, or Medical Director, with regards to client's care protocols. A BHT is instrumental in supporting the client through their recovery per the Doctor's orders. BHT supports the education of the client about his/her condition. BHT is responsible for providing detailed and accurate clinical reporting of client conditions and status and proper clinical actions, including detoxification protocols and medication management/self-administration of medication management protocols. A BHT requires strong attention to detail, the ability to make sound decisions and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a Joint Commission compliant setting, such as in a hospital, medical or detox/recovery environment. Ability to read and understand the English language. Possesses a current and valid CPR and First Aid certificate. Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving a personal vehicle on duty. Able to stand, stoop, bend squat and reach for purpose of performing job duties such as handling materials stocked on shelves, filing, and lifting. Routinely lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds; is expected to ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items.
Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for the performance of job duties. Experienced in the self-administration medication process. Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of withdrawal, seizures, pain, high anxiety, low and high blood sugars, or a critically dangerous medical emergency. Ability to perform animal care duties. Ability to perform cooking and cleaning duties.
Able to stand and walk most of the working day and to physically perform other job duties. Duties may require occasional use of a stool or small ladder. Specific qualifications may vary based on the assignment.
Recovering individuals must have a minimum two years clean, sober and abstinent to be considered for employment.
