Where do you fit?

To be a successful Foster Care Worker – Unlicensed you must become able to do the following always:

1. Ensure a trauma informed focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for staff and those served through knowledge, sensitivity, respect, and a focus on resilience and recovery.

2. Knowledge of DCF licensing standards for both initial licensing and on-going licensure for foster parents.

3. Provide supervision and support of assigned Foster Parents through service provision, assessing and promoting safety, well-being, and permanency. Encourage/Support of increased number of foster homes in KS through partnership with the department marketing plan.

4. Act as an ambassador with foster parents and natural contacts about the need for additional foster parents in KS, with the goal of generating increased foster homes to meet the needs of that community. Growth will be established through the involvement of existing foster parents as well as faith based and civic organizations to increase foster homes.

5. Maintain timely documentation in agency electronic health record (uploading/completing) for both the children and foster parents according to Foster Care Department expectations. Complete required assessments including the development, evaluation, and recommendations of treatment plans for all children assigned to caseload.

6. Train and license foster homes through partnership with the pre-service trainer.

7. Assess needs and provide knowledge, skills, and tools to Foster Parents to successfully function within the expectations and procedures outlined in the Foster Parent Handbook.

8. Train and license foster homes through partnership with the pre-service trainer.

9. Participation in supervision, department meetings, quality improvement activities, and agency-wide communication, emails, and meetings.

10. Demonstrate the willingness to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job within the competencies established for the position and meet department goals.

11. Follow Company Policy and Procedure and operate according to the Company’s Program Practice Guidelines.

  • 10% Foster Parent Training
  • 5% Meeting Participation
  • 5% Other duties as assigned

To qualify for this job, you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social service or related field unless State exception is received.
  • Prefer 2 years’ experience in child welfare.
  • Ability to travel, driving company or personal vehicle including at night. Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Able to walk upstairs. Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Employee is subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally, inside conditions frequently, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change.
