Elko County is Hiring a Lifeguard-Jackpot Recreational Center Near Jackpot, NV

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
Under direct supervision, enforces water safety regulations and oversees swimmers and patrons using the facility, promoting health, enjoyment, and safety. 
 
This is a part-time entry-level position. Part-time Lifeguards will report to the Recreation Program Operations Supervisor. In the supervisor’s absence, the employee will report to the Recreation’s Head Lifeguard. The position will not exceed more than 19 hours weekly or 1039 hours annually. 
 
This position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position are required to pass a pre-employment screening for alcohol and controlled substances. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Enforce rules and regulations pertaining to pool operation and safety and supervises pool areas when in use. Monitor and regulate safety and supervises fitness area. 
  • Administer first aid and/or CPR as needed. Administer AED as needed. Perform water rescue according to American Red Cross training. 
  • Function as a team member within an emergency plan for handling of accidents in the pool and in the fitness area. 
  • Check visitors and members into the facility and make sure proper waivers are filled out. Collect fees. 
  • Maintain a standard of facility sanitation. Assist in cleaning and general maintenance of the facility. 
  • Attend meetings and training when scheduled. 
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner, provide information within the area of assignment, and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. 
  • Maintain proper physical fitness, mental alertness, and readiness to handle emergencies. 
  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. 
  • Ability to obtain lifeguard certification at the time of hiring. (Will be obtained by the Recreational Supervisor)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s)
An employee in this position must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:

Knowledge
  • Lifesaving and water techniques.
  • First aid, CPR, and AED procedures 
  • Rules and regulations pertaining to the swimming pool and Fitness equipment. 
  • Pool and fitness equipment operation and health standards.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. 
Skills
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the public and employees.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Abilities
  • Swim with proficiency and endurance.
  • Recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly Perform first aid, CPR, and AED
  • Perform lifeguarding observation and water rescue techniques.
  • Enforce established policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Strength and stamina to constantly position self in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Dexterity and ability to move on slippery and uneven surfaces. 
  • Strength and ability to maintain sustained physical exertion. 
  • Ability to observe and detect swimmers in distress and efficiently perform rescue techniques.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to constant noise, solvents, and chemicals. 
  • Strength, dexterity, and the ability to transport up to 50 pounds. Or use proper equipment for assistance. 
  • The ability to interact professionally, communicate effectively, and exchange information accurately with all internal and external customers.

  • Environment includes exposure to cool and warm temperatures. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions/situations including toxic fumes or caustic chemicals. 
  • Frequent contact with members of the public by responding to requests for service and assistance. 
  • Frequent interruptions and working closely with others. The noise level is usually moderate.
