WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The Dental Assistant School Based Program (DASBP) will provide quality care and services to patients by assisting dental hygienist(s), dentist(s) and other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. Affect the efficiency and productivity of patient flow through timely, accurate and professional patient interactions, taking x-rays, assisting during patient visits.

Compensation - Dependent Upon Experience

$21.00 - $27.30 an hour

Requirements

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The successful candidate will be willing and able to:

  • Ensure all patients enjoy a positive experience, and are treated with care and compassion expected. Create an environment where the patient feels comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
  • Pre-register and check in patients. Prepare all binders with enrollment packets for procedures.
  • Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIPAA and standards and best practices. Scan documents when needed into the electronic health records.
  • Ensure patient health histories (dental and medical) are accurately documented according to standards and best practices for the dental hygienist’s reference prior to examination
  • Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that the correct dental equipment is packed to take to the assigned work site to ensure that the dental hygienist is prepared for patient visits before the morning of the scheduled workday and transport the equipment to the work site.
  • Uses proper PPE at all times
  • Support the program director with implementation of the program where needed.
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments in accordance with infection control procedures, standards and best practices
  • Assist dental hygienists to set-up instruments and supplies for procedures.
  • Empty instrument/equipment bins and prepare items needed for the next day.
  • Ensure the work area is left cleaned, load equipment, and return equipment to Elica warehouse.
  • Effectively fill daily appointment schedules, optimizing each dental provider’s day maximizing their personal ability, support staff, and physical resources.
  • Coordinate care plan adherence activities such as appointment reminders, follow up for patients needing additional dental treatments, arranging transportation, etc.
  • Enhances access to care for Elica patients by working to establish dental care provider relationships for continuity of care and a dental home.
  • Assists in providing enrollment packets to sites, as well as assists in assuring that all consent forms have been received and signed before rendering services.
  • Ensures any Medical clearance forms or specialty reports required are received prior to patient appointment
  • Coordinate fees and insurance benefits for patients
  • Create accurate financial estimates for each patient on their dental treatment plan
  • Utilize available financial options to give patients choices for how they can pay.
  • Drive to multiple work sites. Driving time may range from 10 minutes and up to but not limited to 35 minutes depending on work site assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Dental Clinic Duties

(Applicable when work is scheduled at the dental clinic)

  • Develop favorable relationships with all patients; Instruct patients and their family members on general oral health care and/or information related to post-treatment care as appropriate
  • Establish favorable working relationships with all staff members associated with clinic operations, including dental receptionist, dental hygienists, dentists and related staff
  • Take clinically diagnostic quality x-rays at the direction of the dentist and in alignment with standing orders, standards, and best practices
  • Assist dentist chair-side by organizing and preparing instruments for dentist’s use and assist as needed during procedures
  • Assist dentist(s) in proper documentation in patient medical records during exams and procedures
  • Advise patients in oral hygiene and dental care
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies/instruments and assists in ordering as needed
  • Set up and break down dental operatory per standards and best practices
  • Backup the other staff positions, provide relief and support to other staff functions and perform office duties as requested

The successful Candidate has:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of CA Dental Practice act course, 8 Hour Infection control course and X-Ray (Radiation safety) certification or successful completion of a radiation safety course that satisfies the requirements outlined by the Dental Board of California. Current BLS certified.
  • Completion of a formal Dental Assisting program preferred.
  • In lieu of a completed dental assisting program, Dental Assistant may be enrolled in Elica’s internal dental assistant training program and must successfully complete the requirements within 1 month of starting employment.
  • Experience with EPIC Wisdom and/or dental scheduler preferred
  • Experience with dental office billing
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.
  • If selected for an employment opportunity with Elica Health Centers, external hires must provide proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella & Tetanus), tuberculosis clearance, and proof of COVID-19 vaccination status* prior to their scheduled start date. Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The work environment is characteristic of both indoor and outdoor environments at both corporate office and healthcare facility settings . The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position; use hands to handle or lift. The employee is also required to move and position themselves to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally move, position and/or remove up to 70 pounds, and be able to position themselves to ascend/descend ladders and stairs to complete services while practicing all OSHA approved workplace guidelines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderately loud; the incumbent must be able to focus in an environment with many distractions.
