In this role, the technician will be responsible for the evaluation of printed circuit board (PCB) materials, manufacturing, and design rules.
This role will entail running Interconnect Stress Tests (IST) on PCB samples in support of future generation products.
IST testing is an industry standard test method for accelerating thermal failure within PCBs.
This testing will require the technician to quickly come up to speed on operating the specific test equipment utilized (Windows based software custom hardware), regularly summarize test results to review with other engineers on the team and help plan any adjustments to the experiments.
Some hand soldering of through hole pin headers is also commonly needed.
This role may also require support of Conductive Anodic Filament (CAF) testing.
This responsibility would require learning a custom software application to manage the testing.
It may also require loading PCB coupons into a temperature/humidity chamber to initiate testing and soldering wires to the PCB coupons.
Similarly, summarizing results and reviewing with the PCB engineering team would be necessary.
In additional, the Engineering Technician will work with Engineering to collect solder joint morphology data using the Scanning Electron Microscope and other physical analysis tools.

Some degree of judgment required in resolving nonstandard problems.
Normally receives general instructions on most work.
Capable of documenting non-standard problems and assisting with root cause analysis.
Works with minimal supervision and can adjust to rapidly changing priorities. Completes sample preparation, tool set-up and operation, and documents finding for further engineering analysis
