Elementary School TBD is Hiring a 1.0 FTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELORS BEGINNING THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR (#1509) Near Pullman, WA

DEFINITION OF POSITION: School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principals

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Possess, or be eligible for, a Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate with a school social worker or school counselor endorsement
  • Public school or related experience working with young adolescent students
  • Experience and/or training in developing and managing Section 504 accommodation plans 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology or other related field
  • Experience as a classroom teacher

Provide appraisal and advisement

in large-group, classroom, small group and individual.


Identify gaps in achievement,

attendance, discipline, opportunity, and resources.


Apply legal and ethical principles of

the school counseling profession.


Provide short-term counseling in

small-group and individual settings.


Develop annual student outcome

goals based on student data.


Apply school counseling

professional standards and

competencies.


Make referrals to appropriate

school and community resources.


Develop and implement action

plans aligned with annual student

outcome goals and student data.


Use ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors

for Student Success to inform

the implementation of a school

counseling program.


Consult and collaborate to support student achievement and success.


Assess and report program results

to the school community.


Demonstrate understanding of

the impact of cultural, social and

environmental influences on

student success and opportunities.


Collaborate with families, teachers,

administrators, other school staff

and education stakeholders for

student achievement and success.


Use time appropriately according

to Washington State requirements, national recommendations, and

student/school data.


Demonstrate leadership

through the development and

implementation of a school

counseling program.



Establish agreement with the

principal and other administrators

about the school counseling

program.


Demonstrate advocacy for a school

counseling program.



Use appropriate school counselor

performance appraisal process.


Create systemic change through

the implementation of a school

counseling program.



ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES: 

  • Write, monitor, and coordinate student 504 accommodation plans and annual reviews
  • Schedule and assist in the transition process from elementary school to middle school
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Is a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Meet timelines consistently
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible 

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: Placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days
  • Leaves/Benefits: As per district policy
