Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general repairs, installations and maintenance on plant equipment and facilities, or under close supervision may perform a variety of entry level duties in one of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, metal working or machine maintenance. May be responsible for the company’s Hazardous Waste Program, as assigned.

May perform more routine functions of the various maintenance trades, but would typically rely on guidance from a supervisor or a skilled trades person to select specialized materials or to determine the layout and design characteristics for maintenance projects.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - MAINTENANCE

  • Perform work in specialty area such as electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, machine maintenance, or in other maintenance areas.
  • Construct or repair simple wood structures such as floors, work benches, skids, and crates.
  • Change motors, electrical controls, portable tools, etc.
  • Check, adjust, lubricate, and repair production equipment.
  • Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces.
  • Repair and check simple plumbing.
  • Assist higher level personnel in performance of plant maintenance by moving and erecting ladders and staging, moving building materials and equipment, pulling wire through conduit, holding heavy equipment or parts in place, etc.
  • Assist in snow removal when required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – HAZARDOUS WASTE

  • Use Safety Data Sheets to determine how to safely identify, use, store, and dispose of hazardous chemicals and waste.
  • Under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor or Facilities representative, provide appropriate containers, properly labeled, for the accumulation and storage of hazardous waste generated in satellite areas. Removed accumulated waste from satellite areas when containers are full.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping is maintained at all times in the hazardous waste storage area.
  • Notify Facilities representative when accumulation of hazardous waste requires scheduling of pick-up by waste transporter.
  • Provide Facilities representative with the quantity and waste identification information necessary for preparation of manifests.
  • Advise Facilities representative of requirements for additional empty drums needed to store and transport hazardous waste.
  • Complete inspection reports for the Hazardous Waste Storage Room and satellite storage areas as detailed in the Elbit Systems of America- Charleston Hazardous Waste Management & Emergency Response Plan.

Essential Function – EHS Support 

  • Assist with maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly departmental and site metrics;
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics;
  • Training and assisting others (managers, employees, etc.) to complete their safety and compliance responsibilities (audits, follow safety rules, etc.);
  • Conducting appropriate inspections and audits, and ensuring corrective actions are monitored and documented;
  • Maintains employee files within EHS-S;
  • Enforcing compliance of EHS programs;
  • Assist with completing, documenting, and submitting required EHS reports and recordkeeping information;
  • Conducting EHS training and briefings as needed, including new employee and contractor orientation;
  • Assist with the response to and investigating events including injuries and near-miss events. Assist with driving closure of effective corrective / preventive actions, as assigned;
  • Conducting environmental compliance site audits of TSDFs, non-hazardous waste facilities, solid waste facilities, as assigned; · Assist with preparing environmental compliance reports and permits; · Updating Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and external supplier evaluation software (VelocityEHS & Q-Pulse); and
  • Respond to emergency situations when they arise
  • Participating in Safety Committees as an essential personnel
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the EHS Strategic Plan. 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • May perform less complex or miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires knowledge of maintenance skills normally acquired through 2 years of related experience or through 2 years of post high school vocational training in one of the trade specialties. If assigned to the Hazardous Waste Program, requires documented annual on-the-job training in hazardous waste handling and management from the Elbit Systems of America- Merrimack Facilities Department.
