El Puente seeks a responsible, detailed, and committed Evening Safety Coordinator to join El Puente Taylor Wythe Leadership Center. This position reports to the Program Director of and will work with the El Puente staff, members, and community. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, flexible, team-oriented environment, and is motivated by the opportunity to assist in creating an inviting and open organizational culture. They will also have a passion for social justice and will understand how movement building is served by a strong administrative team.

Founded in 1982, El Puente is a youth-centered organization that uses the arts and education to advance social and environmental justice. Our mission is to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice, working as a human rights institution in NYC and Puerto Rico with national and international impact. El Puente creates community-led movements of self-determination through a holistic leadership and membership program model, as a high-impact youth and community development organization.
El Puente integrates its activities and community campaigns within its six Youth Leadership Centers, and its nationally recognized public high school, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. Organizing in North Brooklyn, Puerto Rico, and beyond, El Puente remains at the forefront of community & youth development, and as such, initiates /impacts social policy locally and nationally.
As a staff member of El Puente, the Evening Safety Coordinator is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.
Position Overview:
The Evening Safety Coordinator is an integral part of our administrative team, supporting the late afternoon and evening operations of the organization. Punctuality and dependability are paramount. This is a part-time, in-person position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Greet, direct, and supervise participants and visitors creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Promote respect and build positive mentoring relationships. Build working relationships and be a positive team member.
Keep track and ensure that all activities in the building are conducted safely. Negotiate room assignments and schedules when necessary.
Work to create and maintain systems of safety/security for all members and staff in the building.
Ability to diffuse situations and practice conflict resolution when needed.
Ready and able to respond to emergencies.
Reporting and documenting incident reports to the Program Director.
Supervise overall programming facilities and activities during the evening hours of operation( M-F, 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM).
Support in recruiting, coordinating, and supervising Co-Locators (outside groups who use the space for community activities) and their activities.
Keep accurate data and records including applications, signing-in sheets, and visitor’s logs.
Ensure reception space and surrounding area is clean and stocked with all necessary supplies.
Answer telephones and make necessary referrals as requested by community members.
Meet with the Director bi-weekly and email the Program Director Daily on program updates.
Work with staff to mentor and support youth, as well as to create a safe, supervised, and welcoming environment.
Other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Secondary Job Functions:
Clean and sanitize workspace consistently as but not limited to:
Light Labor, picking up boxes, setting up spaces
Participate in professional development and organizational training
Support programs and campaigns aligned with the organization's mission as requested.
Attend scheduled organizational training, including the annual all-staff retreat in September.
Usage of Personal hardware such as:
Cellular phone
Computer
Tablets
Security background preferred. Comfortable working with diverse populations and experience in engaging youth and adults in programming.
Have strong communication skills (in-person and on the phone) and professional demeanor.
Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Superb interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Schedule: Generally Monday through Friday. Work days and hours may shift depending on scheduling needs; typical schedule will be 6PM-10PM
Salary and Benefits:
$20 per hour/20 hours per week.
