El Paso County (CO) is Hiring a Fleet Manager Near Colorado, CO

Hiring Range: $98,000.00 - $117,150.00 annually 

(salary to be commensurate with qualifications)

This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Thursday, 6:30am – 5:00pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.

Responsible for the oversight of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, and services of light/heavy vehicles and equipment, including auxiliary equipment. Monitors and enforces personnel, shop, and equipment safety. Supervises the work and professional development of fleet maintenance staff. Develops, implements, and oversees Fleet maintenance programs. Monitors and enforces the Fleet Management Division’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Manages the maintenance and repair operations for Fleet, enforcing work standards, timely repairs, and preventive maintenance compliance..
  • Develops and implements Fleet programs (i.e., preventive maintenance, in- out-processing, quality control, warranty, etc.).
  • Oversees the operations maintenance facilities; directs and assists supervisory staff with ensuring all activities are performed safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, training, and leadership to assigned staff. Conducts performance evaluations and motivates employees to reach peak productivity and performance; participates in the hiring and disciplinary process. Monitors and enforces all County and Fleet standards and procedures.
  • Assists the Fleet Division Manager with resource allocation to ensure effective and efficient use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
  • Develops, implements, and tracks all training needs/requirements of the division and coordinates approval and scheduling.
  • Assists Fleet Division Manager with maintaining a vehicle/equipment replacement schedule; provides recommendations of current and future replacement needs.
  • Develops and maintains vehicle and equipment specifications. Assist the with procurement of new vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Communicates with vendors and manufacturers on repairs, warranties, and replacements.
  • Manages Fleet's maintenance programs utilizing current fleet management systems. Creates and provides reports on all maintenance related activities.
  • Works directly with Department Safety and County Environmental Services to ensure compliance and correct any deficiencies found during inspections.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised: This classification requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or unit(s) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary action and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. A first-line or second-line supervisor typically performs these tasks.
Supervision Received: Receives administrative supervision. This classification typically performs job duties and resolves conflict according to their own judgment and initiatives, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with little oversight, and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance reviewed periodically.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing maintenance programs and ability to enforce standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, and equipment used in welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to supervise, analyze, and evaluate the work of assigned employees; ability to objectively review, evaluate, and document the performance of employees.
  • Ability to conduct research on vehicle/equipment utilization, operating cost, fault analysis/benchmarking, and replacement criteria.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external partners. Ability to provide excellent customer service. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, executive leadership, external agencies, property owners, and the public. 
  • Ability to compile and prepare clear and concise reports and equipment specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Five years of maintenance shop management experience, including three years of supervisory experience.
  • Eight years of professional experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
    • Associate’s degree in automotive technology may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Associate's degree in automotive technology.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Colorado Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred. 
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Duties are performed indoors, outdoors and in a garage environment; may be exposed to adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to hazardous materials, such as antifreeze, lubricants, solvents, corrosives, fuels, and vapors. Works with potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and hazardous materials. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Responds to on-call after-hours and El Paso County emergencies. Subject to drug and alcohol testing.
