Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating and implementing advising services and program activities for participants in either grant or non-grant funded programs.
Essential Functions
Responsible for providing academic goal setting, career exploration, and program selection, and will work closely with the Financial Aid Office to ensure participant's financial need is met.
Assess student needs to develop and implement an educational and career plan to assist students in resolving instructional conflicts, academic progress, interpersonal problems, academic adjustment difficulties, and other student related matters and update as needed.
Identify and intervene with students who are academically at risk by tracking students' academic progress and providing individual student conferences.
Schedule and provide workshops in career and cultural awareness topics or other areas of interest and need that may increase retention of project participants, and develop materials necessary for these workshops.
Participate in staff development activities, committees, and serve as an integral part of the department team.
Assist with arrangements for New Student Orientation presentations and class presentations.
Grant program advisors will assist with training and supervision of student interns and mentors.
Maintain liaison with faculty, various departments, and programs to provide information, coordinate efforts, and facilitate referrals. Provide institutional district-wide department coverage as needed.
Adhere to record keeping procedures as established by the program. Complete necessary documentation and reports, update computer files, and assist with the collection of data for evaluation and follow-up. Assist with the documentation needed in the eligibility process by securing appropriate documents from other offices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's Degree and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Working knowledge of educational degree and career planning.
3. Experience working as a liaison.

4. Effective customer service skills and ability to assess client's needs.

5. Effective analytical, problem-solving, decision making, and conflict-resolution skills.

6. Effective interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills.

7. Experience working with a variety of spreadsheets, word processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software, and ability to maintain data field values within an integrated database system.

8. Effective communication (oral and written) skills.
9. Experience conducting community outreach activities, presentations, or workshops.

1. Bachelor's degree.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.

Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.
