JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Teacher REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISES: Paraprofessionals at times WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-exempt LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 190 days Classification: Licensed HOURS: 7:50 am -3:25 pm SALARY: $50,000 - $54,040 (A $2,000 stipend will be added for teaching Math or Science grades 5-12) PRIMARY PURPOSE: A teacher is responsible for educating students while holding the belief that every student deserves an education which provides rigor, encourages resilience, and fosters responsibility. They also facilitate a safe space to learn, where communication, collaboration and critical thinking are used to push their students to be their very best. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/ Certification: Bachelor's Degree, Arkansas Teacher’s LicenseOther Requirements Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and proceduresExcellent communicability and interpersonal skillsWell-organized and committedCreative and energeticStrong moral values and disciplineArkansas Teaching LicenseAny other requirement as listed by the Arkansas Department of Education SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Knowledge of:Learning stylesAppropriate learning strategiesStrong public speaking and oral presentation skillsExcellent organization and time management skillsAdvanced technology skills to track student attendance and grades Leadership skills and patience for working with students Ability to:Develop lesson plans and successfully instruct students in theories, methods and tasksEffectively communicate with others and clearly express complex ideasProficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to students’ various learning needs MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Establishes and enforces rules of behavior for students in the classroom, administrative regulations and Board Policy.Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesPrepares lessons, units and projects to complete learning objectives and assisting in selecting of books, equipment, and other instructional materialsPrepares for instruction for each classInstructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designatedEstablishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units and projectsAdapts teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles and capabilities of studentsEncourages students to explore learning opportunities and career pathsCreates, assigns and grades various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays and projectsWorks with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attentionTracks and evaluates student academic progressLeads parent-teacher meetingsMaintains positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers and supervisorsManages student behaviorCreates and maintains a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environmentCommunicates regularly with parentsHelps students improve study methods and habitsAdministers assessments to evaluate students’ progressAttends and participates in professional, in-service, and faculty meetingsCooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methodsAccepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activities as assignedPlans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aids and/or lab assistantsMaintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations WORK ENVIRONMENT Other Physical Requirements Ability to move around inside on hard surface and industrial carpeted surfaces, and to travel at a brisk walking pace relatively long inside distances, without needing to stop or rest. (If applicable: Must be able to perform sustained CPR with the subject on the floor.) Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.
