SUMMARY

Monitors and operates furnaces that melt gray and ductile iron used in the casting process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Operates and maintains coreless induction furnace melting iron.
• Operates industrial crane to hoist equipment onto deck and furnace.
• Operates forklift, as needed, to transport supplies and equipment.
• Skims slag from surface of molten metal using a slag rake.
• Transfers molten metal from furnace to transfer ladle.
• Removes samples of iron utilizing a ceramic fiber cub for metallurgical analysis.
• Cleans furnaces and equipment, and repairs refractory lining utilizing air hammers and pneumatic rammers.
• Knock out and clean all ladles using air hammers and chisels.
• Adds material to alloy bins using forklift and hoist.
