Eichleay is Hiring an Instrumentation Designer - Entry level Near Billings, MT

Are you looking to start a career as an Instrumentation Designer? We are seeking an entry level Instrumentation Designer to join our Instrumentation Engineering and Design team. This position can be is based out of our Billings, MT location. You will have the flexibility to work from our office or remote from home. This is a full-time position with benefits including a 401K match, Employer HSA contribution and a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Compensation: $50,000 - $74,000 *anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

You will attend meetings and participate in client field visits as needed in the Billings area. You may be asked to travel on occasion outside of the area for other projects you support.

Position Profile:

As an entry level Instrumentation Designer at Eichleay you will work with project teams to complete the design of instrumentation for capital, maintenance and repair projects. In this role you will be trained by senior Design staff to complete a variety of instrumentation activities and you will assist in the preparation and revisions to detail and assembly drawings using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). You will learn how to use SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) in developing instrumentation packages, how to read P&IDs and other engineering documents and drawings and coordinate with senior Designers and Engineers to create detailed instrumentation drawings. You will receive supervision from a senior Designer and/or Engineer.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Learn to prepare engineering deliverables using AutoCAD and SPI.
  • Learn how to achieve goals, deliver quality and accurate work, and meet timelines.
  • Learn how engineering projects are executed, steps and interfaces between engineering disciplines to complete accurate and quality deliverables.
  • Learn how to assemble and prepare construction work packages for field construction.
  • Complete redline mark pick-ups for completion of as-built documentation.
  • Assists others to collect or deliver design and engineer data.
  • Participate in job walks and perform site visits.
  • Demonstrates awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Effectively interacts with all team members.
  • Strong customer focus and work to achieve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Deals well with change, is flexible and is willing to follow directions and guidance from Sr Design and Engineering staff
  • Adheres to required processes and procedures.
  • Will work at Eichleay office, client office, facility, or site. When performing work outside Eichleay’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Eichleay and/or client as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree or certification in instrumentation or electrical technology or other engineering or scientific discipline, is preferred. Specialized courses in drafting, design, and engineering practices are also acceptable.
  • Has experience or training in AutoCAD.
  • Has equivalent experience and/or training in AC and DC electricity.
  • Has equivalent experience and/or training in conduit and wiring methods.
  • Familiarity with NEC codes is desired.
  • Understanding of PLCs, Motor Controls and basic Automation is desired.
  • Possess solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interacts well with other team members.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC card.
  • Ability to work on-site at a refinery or industrial facility.
  • Ability to be badged for process safety management governed facilities, which will require pre-hire substance abuse screening and random substance abuse screening thereafter.
