Position Summary
The Repair Technician is a MacGyver when it comes to troubleshooting, evaluating, and performing repairs of various types of electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical equipment. This role can leverage their knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical principles to determine the proper repair needed to deliver the best outcome for the customer. The Repair Technician will support EGW’s counter operation by expediting calibrations, performing simple repairs, and answering customer questions. When needed, the Repair Technician will assist with picking and preparing repaired items for shipments of product from the repair department.
The Repair Technician must build and maintain strong working relationships with the customer service, purchasing, warehouse/shipping personnel, and management teams.
Essential Functions/Duties of the position included, but not limited to

  • Inspect, operate, or test mechanical, electronic and hydraulic equipment to diagnose malfunctions, damage, defects, or wear
  • Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Perform general preventive maintenance in accordance to manufacturers guidelines.
  • Perform quality control processes to ensure proper function of equipment.
  • Document and record services performed utilizing company provided systems
  • Pick parts from inventory to perform repairs
  • Process inventory counts and maintain accurate location of assigned inventory
  • Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain shop housekeeping standards.
This position reports to the Inside Sales Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisor responsibility.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and general dirt and grime. This position occasionally performs work in outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 100 pounds. Specific vision (corrected or uncorrected) required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Other hours may include flexible schedules, evening and weekend required as job duties demand. Please see travel section.

Quarterly scheduled travel will be required and needed to perform repairs at customer sites.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Knowledge of basic math skills—add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Basic skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude: The products involved can be mechanical and technical in nature and require that the Repair Technician fully understand their product/services and impact to the customer.
  • Maintain a current/valid driver license from the state in which position is assigned
  • Maintain a proven safe driving record
  • Reliable mode of transportation- ability to work the hours of operation for this role
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or the equivalent in a technical field.
  • 2 years’ experience and ability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • A thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
  • Experience in working with customers over the phone
  • Experience in sourcing products and negotiating prices
  • Experienced in using an ERP (SAP, Oracle, Epicor Prophet 21, or Epicor Eclipse)
  • Experience working for a distributor or wholesale business
  • Experience with underground utility products, i.e., waterworks, plumbing and natural gas utilities
