Position Summary
The Buyer II leads daily inventory replenishment activities, analyzing inventory and supplier performance, product costs, inbound freight selection, and maintaining accurate inventory and supplier data in the Company’s ERP, Epicor Prophet 21. The Buyer II role will include a matrix of natural gas industry suppliers and those products serving our customers. This buyer will be involved in processing many drop-ship (Direct Shipment) orders to customers. The Buyer II will build and maintain strong working relationships with Customer Service /Inside Sales Representatives, warehouse/shipping personnel, accounting, members of management, and other Supply Chain counterparts. The Buyer II possesses character, professionalism, and humility with a focus on service and support.
Essential Functions of the Position

  • Follow company processes to ensure inventory is replenished to optimal levels at the lowest possible cost. While following existing company processes the Buyer II will look for opportunities to make improvements.
  • Manage and maintain all assigned vendor/supplier communications and relations, as well as all system and product data
  • Review current stock and non-stock inventory requirements and generate the most economical purchase orders possible for assigned suppliers.
  • Obtain purchase order confirmations, verify pricing and quantity, and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery (maintain up-to-date internal expected date system information).
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding open purchase order/line expected ship dates
  • Attend and come prepared to all meetings, ask informed questions, complete action items on-time, and make a constructive contribution in discussions/meeting.
  • Performance in this position will be measured by increasing inventory service levels and turns, reducing non-essential inventory, and quarterly and annual goal achievement. Cost control and timely turn-around of internal requests is another measurement of performance metrics.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the Company’s products and the industries that the Company serves.
  • Support EGW’s Customer Service Department by purchasing customer-specific/required products, consolidating purchase orders, and utilizing stock requirements to meet freight targets.
  • Utilize the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) management system and identify and resolve inter and intra-departmental issues.
The position reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education & Skills Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 Years minimum purchasing experience
  • Experience in mining data and reporting
  • Working knowledge of relational databases
  • Ability to source products and negotiate pricing
  • Experience in working with vendors (communications via phone and on-site meetings)
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable mode of transportation- ability to work the hours of operation for this role
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Buying experience with managing lead times, trends, customer demand, Costs
  • Experience in inventory management and procurement of industrial products, desirable
  • Experienced in using an ERP (SAP, Oracle, Epicor Prophet 21, or Epicor Eclipse)
  • Experience working for a distributor or wholesale-related business
  • Experience with natural gas utilities and products used
