Egan Company is Hiring a Controls Engineer Intern - Summer 2024 Near Cary, NC

Overview:

Egan Company is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controls Engineer Intern located in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this exciting role within our Process & Manufacturing Controls team, you will assist in designing, programming, documenting, and servicing automated control systems for various industrial clients.

This opportunity allows the applicant to see projects in various stages, from conception to commissioning and completion.

This opportunity will involve working closely with various Electrical, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineers and control electricians. This will allow the intern to gain experience and an understanding of personal and design safety, along with crucial concepts end users require.

Depending on Egan’s future workload, opportunities for part-time work may exist during the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The responsibilities of the Controls Engineer Intern include but are not limited to assisting the engineering team in the following areas:
  • Design and program various industrial process control systems that integrate new and existing hardware and software.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair customers’ control systems as required.
  • Programming of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, Servos, and VFDs.
  • Understand UL 508A control panel construction and design requirements.
  • Understanding OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements
  • Support sales by estimating controls hardware costs and labor hours for potential projects.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E.

Position Requirements:

  • Attending a Bachelor of Engineering degree program and successfully completing a minimum of 80 credit hours within an engineering Major
  • Familiarity with Google® Suite- Sheets, Docs, Gmail, and Drive.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work within a dynamic team environment and with various customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft® Office Suite is required.
  • Familiarity with Google® Suite is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Power system design is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting/design/configuration of machine-level Ethernet networks and managed switches is beneficial.
  • Understanding machine safety and safety circuit design categories is beneficial.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to be present in person at our site in Raleigh, NC.
  • Have flexibility in your schedule to assist in some project commissioning teams.
  • Many customers are in food manufacturing requiring adherence to GMP practices
