Position Summary: If you are a high energy, detail oriented, outgoing person who excels at collaborating and building strong business relationships with vendor and peers, this job is for you. This is an entry level position in the tax department and a successful candidate will have the ability to learn and adapt quickly and collaborate with others easily. Responsible for a variety of state and local indirect taxes including petroleum, tobacco and property taxes.
Responsibilities:

• Daily review, maintenance and tax coding of fuel products.
• Work with operations staff and outside vendors to resolve tax discrepancies.
• Prepare and file federal and state motor fuel tax refunds
• Technical tax resource for Fuel Accounting, Pricing and Supply groups .
• Provide monthly tax data extracts to external vendors for tax return preparation .
• Timely review and reconciliation of all assigned general ledger account reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with government regulations and respond, verbally or in writing to notices from taxing authorities in order to resolve discrepancies and to minimize interest and penalty charges
• Communicate and provide backup documents for tax notice inquiries on a timely basis
• Assist as requested on indirect tax audits, or other projects as directed.
• Monitor and communicate tax rate changes to the field as necessary.

Working Relationships: Corporate accounting –review of data/account reconciliations and invoice matching; IT–system upgrades and implementations State Revenue Agencies-resolve minor tax issues; Finance/Accounting-account reconciliations; Fuel Delivery vendors; Warehouse and Cash Management.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Associates Degree - Business
Preferred Education: B.S. Accounting
Minimum Experience: Entry Level
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years in a multi-state corporate environment or public accounting firm.

Soft Skills: Detail oriented, Proficient in Excel & other PC applications, strong organization skills, attention to detail and able to work under pressure at times to meet hard deadlines. Ability to work with cross functional groups.
