We are looking for a dynamic and experienced [Tax Manager] to join our Tax and Business Services team.

EFPR Group is seeking a Tax Manager with five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience in public accounting to join its Tax and Business Services team in [Rochester, New York]. The Tax Manager is responsible for oversight and management of the tax reporting, tax planning and compliance function. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic guidance to clients, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and assisting in the growth and development of our clients’ businesses.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

Client Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships
  • Understand clients’ financial goals and provide strategic tax planning and business consulting services

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of tax and business services professionals
  • Provide guidance, training and support to ensure team members deliver high-quality services including providing verbal and written performance feedback

Tax Compliance: 

  • Review and oversee the preparation of various tax returns, including but not limited to income, sales and payroll tax returns
  • Stay updated on changing tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and maximize tax benefits for clients
  • Serves as lead contact to interact with client
  • Ensures both that: (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards
  • Conducts top level review of various tax returns and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate
  • Communicates with client and assures any issues identified are communicated to the appropriate Partner/Director assigned to the client

Tax Specialization:

  • Develops in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, corporate pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, credits and incentives
  • May be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists

Business Consulting:

  • Offer expert advice on business strategies, financial planning, and risk management to help clients achieve their financial objectives
  • Analyze financial statements and make recommendations for improvement
  • Frames projects and issues for effective delegation to Senior Associates and Associates

Client Growth:

  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling services and expanding the client base
  • Develop and present proposals for new services and projects to clients
  • Review studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action
  • Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methods

Quality Control and Research:

  • Ensure all work is performed with the highest level of quality, accuracy and adherence to professional standards
  • Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched and reports the analysis

Reporting:

  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on department performance and client satisfaction
  • Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior Associate
  • Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client

Compliance and Ethics:

  • Ensure all services are performed in compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Promote a culture of integrity and adherence to professional codes of conduct

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • CPA Licensed preferred 
  • Minimum five (5) to eight (8) years’ prior experience in public accounting
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations and partnerships preferred
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, organizational, technological and analytical skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to compose written tax advice
  • Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision making skills
  • Ability to effectively delegate work as needed
  • Capacity to work well in team environment
  • Capable of effectively developing and managing a team of tax professionals
  • Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients 
  • Commitment to maintaining professional certifications and staying updated on industry trends
  • Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA Proficient in all tax compliance process software, Caseware, Depreciation Software or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local tax laws and regulations

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ProSystems, CCH Axcess) a plus

The position is based in Rochester, NY. Consideration will be given to qualified employees who wish to work hybrid or remotely.
