ESS Overview: Effective School Solutions (ESS) is one of the country’s leading providers in school-based mental health services for K-12 students. Serving over 4,000 students across nine states in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and the West Coast regions, our company was founded based on the concept of offering the types of higher acuity clinical care that students would normally receive in a private practice or private school setting within the public-school building. We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Senior Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to contribute to the success of the company while maintaining a hybrid schedule.

About the Role:

Effective School Solutions is currently seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will demonstrate strong proficiency in an integrated accounting system (NetSuite preferred), strong general accounting principles (CPA preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite. A working knowledge of Bill.com, and Salesforce is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses in compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy of financial records.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
  • Manage monthly invoicing of clients.
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy, ensuring proper coding of expenses to the general ledger account, and ensuring timely payment.
  • Request W-9s from new vendors for year-end 1099 processing.
  • Review employee expense reports for accuracy and policy exceptions.
  • Track recognition of deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, and accruals.
  • Record month-end journal entries and assist in General Ledger account structure updates.
  • Establish positive relationships with colleagues, team leaders, customers, and vendors.
  • Harness technology to improve controls, create efficiencies, and define policies.
  • Support NetSuite implementation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Proficient skills in accounting software and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience implementing a new accounting system.
  • Prior experience supporting a healthcare business preferred.
