  • Hours: every other Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 pm - 11:00pm.

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides laboratory paratechnical support to the Department of Laboratory Medicine and its customers through the deployment of the "Zone Management Customer Service Program" and related workstation assignments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the Hospital.
1. Performs accurate venipuncture and capillary specimen collection for all inpatients and outpatients.
2. Operates and utilizes the L.I.S. and other available resources to appropriately address the needs of the lab service areas and their clientele.
3. Performs accurate 12 lead electrocardiograms.
4. Prepares blood and body fluid samples for processing.
5. Ensures that all customer requests for Laboratory services are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
6. Participates in and promotes adherence to the hospital and department Quality Management initiatives.
7. Enhances professional growth development through active participation in educational programs, current literature, inservices, meetings and workshops.
8. Understands the importance of professional appearance and behavior in conducting oneself in a customer-oriented manner in accordance with the hospital's mission.
Other Functions:
9. Distributes lab reports as necessary and accurately inserts in-patient reports to patient charts as scheduled.
10. Assists with inventory management duties as assigned.
PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to recognize the clinical needs and patterns of patients from a variety of age groups as it pertains to the application and utilization of laboratory testing requirements and results.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Internal contacts may include any member of the health care delivery team. External contact would include health care personnel/professionals, regulating/governmental agency personnel, patients and visitors.
ENVIRONMENT:
Primary body position: Sitting = 25%, Standing/Walking = 75%
Lifting requirements: Phlebotomy trays, EKG carts, lab supplies, patients (40 lb. max., 60%)
Repetitive tasks: Phlebotomy, keyboarding (60%)
Exposure to environmental conditions: noise, chemicals (acids/bases), blood/body fluids,
airborne diseases (95%)
Known risk factors: Combative patients
